Ed Kennell 35,828 #2 Posted September 14, 2019 (edited) Our Ringneck season in Pa. doesn't open for 6 more weeks. We haven't had a wild population since the '80s. The birds that are hunted here are pen raised and stocked annually by the Game Commission. The fox, coyote, and eagle probably harvest as many as the hunters. Ed Kennell 35,828 #3 Posted September 14, 2019 Your picture got me thinking about the "good old days" when we had wild pheasants and rabbits. Got me looking thru some old albums. Here are a few pics from the '60s. I had two springer spaniels and thirteen beagles at one time.
troutbum70 857 #4 Posted September 15, 2019 Great pictures my favorite hunting doggies were basset's for bunnies and English setters for grouse and woodcock, not saying best for all just best for me. My favorite thing about basset's was their slow steady pace never pushing the ragget to hard especially on crappy days when a ragget may hole quickly.
