I was going to ask that. Maybe to make it more stable or fit furrows, or both?

The rear is set in the "narrow" position, which is about 79 inches wide from outside of tire to outside of tire (70 inches from center of tires).  The wide stance is 94 inches from center of tires, which probably translates to over 100 inches from outside of the tires.  Farmall made a BN which was about 8 inches narrower than a regular B.
