peter lena 9,279 #1 Posted September 3, 2019 being a fly tyer, i never pass up a material source, this morning , very conveniently there was a dead jake turkey near my mail box. looked like a head hit , no body damage and perfect feathers. i have screened boxes to dry feathers , so i quickly stripped out the bird , early golden bronze phase colors. the body was just going off so i left that back in the woods , more supply for bad weather tying , good start to the day, pete
Pullstart 66,801 #2 Posted September 3, 2019 Congrats on the score, Peter! I took a fly tying class in middle school and used to tie for my mom’s husband. He would take them up north and let me know which ones worked best... but I never got to go along for some reason. I used to practice casting over and over and feel like I was pretty decent at it and recently found my whole tying kit and vice and have thought about finding a rod and pick it back up again. Some day, I’ll take it all to a river and put it to use!

peter lena 9,279 #12 Posted September 3, 2019 some of those flies look like what i started to tye , nothing at all like it tye now . you have to stay at it , and look everywhere for ideas , todays internet , will walk you thru tying what ever you want. recently introduced my grandson to fly fishing , using pontoon boats with kick fins . incredible silent mobility , fish don,t even know you are there, sitting off to the side of dan , i was steadily critiquing his casts , he was paying attention and his casting got much better, and catching fish too! people all to often exert too much effort on a fly rod, thats where someone , should advise a change to improve a frustrating cast. i really enjoyed introducing dan to fly fishing , and we are going out again soon. grampa, pete

It's an LL Bean Quest rod. Length 7-6. Two piece. 4 wt. Apparently I got a hold of the spare reel but I don't have the case of the reel to hold it to the fly rod.
