Cutting burl blanks

Recommended Posts

The Tuul Crib

I just got my new chain on Friday from a place called. Baileys and put it on my husky to cut these bowl blanks. This is a special chain to rip lengthwise with the grain which has a 10° pitch on the chain links I believe it's a 72 link. It did not hesitate whatsoever to cut end grain on this

white oak. I have more to cut and make another video . Ill cut a few and then turn

Maybe they're steel toed slippers.

Bought a pole saw from Baileys. They got the good stuff. Even have bigger heads and rebuild kits for chain saws...

OK so the shoes are not OSHA approved but they sure feel good on the feet and easy to put on. I'll try and work on that !

What do you call them?

I find the dialect differences very interesting.

A BURL is GOD's gift to wood turners!    Each is unique and you have very little idea what is in there until you mount it on the lathe.

Bur or burr are the names for them in proper English. :ychain:

I have to admit to thinking it was a typo error at first.

I don't have a picture of this machine that a fellow in a wheel chair had custom made to enable him to put a flat surface on large slabs to be used as tables.

The slab to be surfaced was placed under an X, Y, Z cable operated mechanism that he could hand crank moving the router across the length and width of the surface.

Some of the slabs he was surfacing were huge.

Hitchhikers, Bur.

I was through the inverters observations of hitchhiking seeds that Velcro was invented.

nvention of VELCRO® Brand Hook and Loop

Who invented VELCRO® brand tape?

cockleburs

The VELCRO® brand of hook and loop was invented by a man named George de Mestral in the 1940's while hunting in the Jura mountains in Switzerland. Mr. de Mestral, a Swiss engineer, realized that the tiny hooks of the cockle-burs were stuck on his pants and in his dog's fur and wondered how they attached themselves. Under the scrutiny of the microscope, he observed the hooks engaging the loops in the fabric of his pants.
