The old Briggs back in the day probably ran a grain auger, amazing it still turns over.

 

NO PLASTIC.

Have a couple of 5hp and a 7hp model that look just like that.  Have a lot of torque. 1954-1959

Would have to see a better pic. But going by gas tank/bowl size to the size of the block, I'm going with a Model 14. Rated 5.25hp. Could also be a Model 19, which was 7.25horse. 
Definitely not a model 23. 

Really great engines. File the points and I bet she fires right up.
