Oldskool 6666 #380 Posted March 14, 2020 I'm no expert welder myself. I'm self taught. Practice practice. Weld together everything you can scrounge up. Cut some welds in half to keep track of penetration. You will get the hang of it quickly 1
troutbum70 858 #381 Posted March 15, 2020 Eb I am just so ever pleased with myself if I get the angle on the bit to just make good chips, I can't imagine getting one to turn out a nice spiral like that. I really struggle with sharpening drill bits.

I've been watching a few YouTube channels and experimenting a bit with it. Like most things we do it'll be self taught with guidance from friends and folks on Redsquare. same here, I never took a welding class. years ago I was redoing a 65 mustang and needed quarter panels, I bought a craftsman mig welder, practiced on some scraps til I had enough confidence to weld on the quarters. the car came out alright. I feel old now just realized that was 1998 when I did that.
troutbum70 858 #383 Posted March 15, 2020 I have quite a collection of drill bits because of my inability to resharpen them, another reason I miss my dad as he kept my drill bits, mower blades, chain saw chains sharp.

There are no Community Colleges or Trade Schools n your area that teach welding? I bought my welder about 1965. Never took a course, I've had a few thin metal welds to break. Never had a problem with 1/8" thick and larger. Wish I could still see to weld.
