That's ALL I'm about bubba.

I didn't originally plan on taking 3+ years to build this but it's all good.

I don't NEED this tractor. I WANT to build it because I need a drivable "shelf"  for the big nasty engine.

Hey if it makes itself useful pullin' stuff all the better!

Goes well with you magnitising personality.  Was it a positive or negative experience.? Should we take a pole/poll?

Took a good portion of the day to clean and reattach those awesome magnets though.

Absolutely.

Tedious sometimes but always worth it.

Most kids who come over to play with my toys… usually end up playing with magnets too.

I do kinda like the idea of a direct half split down the middle pasted to each side...

Those ornaments are actually printed as two halves already. Be really easy to scale to whatever size.

Today's progress...

Got a couple coils in the mail that can be used on this or other Kohler twins.

I popped the alternator off and used 2 sheet metal screws to pry out the old crank seal.

IMG_20220220_163037462_HDR.jpg.a0d97ea4d63a08d02145aa58ec87ebfd.jpg

New seal in place.

IMG_20220220_165448506_HDR.jpg.4c73589821491e02ad535c0053ddca63.jpg

Flywheel on and torqued.

IMG_20220220_180322800_HDR.jpg.4d0440646bac4d8b495c3f23d84e5e64.jpg

Time to hand sand/plane the cylinder heads.

Found a nice flat piece of steel.

IMG_20220220_175701127.jpg.f2fc584d17fc6ff14363125eae8b11a7.jpg

Taped 120 grit to it.

IMG_20220220_180717890_HDR.jpg.da8e58800fdfb0cf10c16052fa2aa5d5.jpg

I go about 60 or 80 strokes in a direction, turn 90⁰. Repeat.

This is after a couple or three rounds.

You can see the shiny spots where the paper is starting to cut in.

IMG_20220220_181207953_HDR.jpg.1a715ec6d36af73adca7802ebb30ffe2.jpg

This is after going roundy round for a bit.  Still a bit to go...

IMG_20220220_182043297_HDR.jpg.e37eba612762111ffd7b26b1a23cee25.jpg

I'll run the 120 grit until very near all the old dark metal is gone.  Switch to 220.

Might do a round or 3 at 400 grit just for kicks.

It really is time consuming and tiring but also satisfying knowing it'll be straight on once again.

What a progress all the sudden:ychain:

Those head were pretty warped, Normally, I have to go up and down just a few times.

That beast of an engine is going to be as good as new!

Hoping the other side isn't quite as much.

It's a LOT of work to do by hand but it saves a fair amount of money over sending them out.

If I was going to mill .030 or .040 for performance I'd have have sent them out but the twin engines don't seen to benefit much from that.

When I sand heads, I use some paraffin/penetrating fluid or similar. Helps wash of the paper and prevents it clogging up to quickly. Also I use a piece mirror glass.

Plate Glass works quite well. That's what I've used until this occasion.

I have an old storm window and it fits nicely over a particular table that we have. Towel down on the table, glass on top of the towel, then go to work.

This particular occasion that table has a few things on it that I would have rather not moved so I hunted around and found this nice little flat piece of plate steel. Works perfect. I may have to keep it set aside for this reason.

I'll have to try that penetrating oil when I get back to work on this......
