temp light-fuel gauge-charge light

Recommended Posts

Martym

Hello, Just purchased a 520xi tonight. Seems to have some electrical problems. The temp light is always on. Even on initial start when engine is cold. Also the fuel gauge is jumping all over the place. Battery light is also on but voltage regulator is putting out a little over 13 volts. Bought it cheap. Hope to figure out these lights and gauges. Any ideas?

Thank You

Not to familar with your Tractor,

but a good start is allway’s Check firstly all grounds.

secondly check all Fuses.

You can do a simple measurement, switch your meter to resistance

disconnect the Temp sensorwire and measure between sensor connector and ground.

once Engine runs, once engine is off.

if no difference is measured, sensor has fail.

Most electrical problems with a :wh: are the result of loose or corroded connectors. Take the time to clean and tighten ALL electrical connections including grounds and you will likely see no more problems.

Low voltage complaint is often mentioned. Seems the module that controls it fails. Can a voltmeter be added somewhere?

Thought the engine temperature was a gauge. Not confusing with the oil pressure light are you? That is cause for concern.

My mistake. temp is only a gauge. Have read a lot about stuff clogging the fins behind the engine shrouds. Didn't try to remove the shrouds but did very carefully try to blow out behind the shrouds. Saw nothing come out of anywhere. Would of thought that if there is that much crap plugging them I would of seen something somewhere blowing around. Let sit and run for a hour today at full throttle temp gauge only came up about a third of the way. Then sat on it with the blades running for about 30 minutes. Gauge barely moved. Decided to cut grass, after about 15 minutes gauge started creeping up until it was pegged up all the way. Checked with a infra red thermometer around the oil filter area it was reading around 220 degrees. Cylinder temp right above the exhaust pipe was over 300 on both sides. Is this normal or to hot? Also haven't been able to find any kind of diagram as to where the temp sending unit is. Did a compression test on both sides both read 135 lbs. Would they read the same if it had a bad head gasket?  Don't really know what it should be. Don't  know if the sending unit is bad. Or really running to hot. Runs fine even when showing hot, but haven't continued to run it when gauge is showing over heated. Sorry for all the questions,Hoping someone has gone through the same thing and fixed it.

Thanks

Marty
