upstateyankee50 59 #1 Posted August 29, 2019 i am not sure if this is the right site to ask ; but i have a model 314-8 wheel horse and once i start to mow the clutch stops ;i am not really sure if there is an adjustment but once i engage the rod i does start to work but after time the clutch will stop ;i have tried to both lower the deck and even bring it up higher but after a few cuts it stops turning so nay advice would be appreciated ;
Ed Kennell 42,210 #2 Posted August 29, 2019 So the engine is running, the PTO clutch lever is engaged, but the PTO pulleys are not turning. If this is the case, the clutch is slipping due to too little pressure on the plate or the fiber clutch disk needs replaced, or there is a bad spindle in the deck that is locking up. When it stops turning, disengage the PTO, shut off the engine and turn the PTO by hand to verify the deck spindles are free. If they are free, increase the pressure on the PTO disc by removing the hairpin clip on the PTO rod trunnion and turn it one turn to the rear to shorten the effective rod length. If this does not help, you probably need to replace the clutch disc.
Sparky-(Admin) 23,319 #3 Posted August 29, 2019 I agree with Ed. Here’s a pic of where the trunnion is (circled in red) to increase pressure on the PTO.
