Pullstart 68,363 #476 Posted November 11 Good job Uncle Jim! I had about 2 minutes into the full draw. Situation was unique, being on the ground. I shot through some grasses, and who knows what else I have for an excuse, but she dropped hard and hair went flying. I thought it was a good shot. I bet she will walk the same path tonight
Pullstart 68,363 #477 Posted November 11 I tried carrying my deer last night. Once it was on my shoulders, it was much easier than dragging! I had it up there for probably 15 minutes, about as long as I stood in the grass waiting to shoot it!

Wished I had a grain drill tho alot of the seed is just laying on top like yours. Funny thing is some is coming up in rows like it was planted with a drill. I dragged it in with the spikes on the drag pointed down and it made those rows. With the deer walking on it they actually push some of the seed in. Rye only needs to be planted 1/4-1/2 deep & 14 days 'till germination. Been so dammed dry here some rain would have helped. Nice thing about rye is it will grow right up till solid freeze up. Then just sit dormant 'till spring rains and take right off again. No sign of the rape or clover It's just a bad time of year to put it in. What we should do its plow the rye back in spring. about the time of your plow day or even a little later. Then re-seed with a regular deer plot mix. I got this handy sheet from the feed mill with all the different types of seed with planting dates and all kinds of info. I'll see if I can scan it and get you a copy. No need to buy the expensive commercial deer plot seed at farm n barn. My feed mill sells most of the deer plot stuff by the pound. I might try switch grass next year like Punkin farmer does. Deer don't eat it but it gets so tall they use it for cover.
