Contact Clintonnut

If anyone on this forum is in contact with Clintonnut, tell him to check his private messages and email.  Apparently he does not log in very often.  I have a Walbro LMG-117 that needs to be cleaned and rebuilt.  Thanks.  I sent him a private message and an email.

I saw his very good explanation of the process at - https://www.tapatalk.com/groups/clintongasfr/how-to-properly-rebuild-a-walbro-t266.html

If I remember right, which I usually don't, I think he's off to college.

Someone will be along to correct me if I'm wrong.

At the Big Show, he said he is getting away from working on Clintons and carbs.   He is now into auto body and car work.  Maybe votech school or college is part of that.

Charlie is not involved now as he once was. I'd suggest you join and post on that forum you linked. More Clinton guys will see it and be able to help.

Makes sense, as good as his truck turned out.

I did join that forum about a month ago, and posted a question about wiring on a Clinton B1290 engine.  So far, there has been zero response.  Apparently very few people even look at that forum.

Thanks anyway.  I may just order a rebuild kit and take a shot at it myself.  But I estimate my likelihood of success at about 50% without breaking something.  That's how I roll.

You can use the carb from a Kohler on a Clinton

You're right, looks dead over there on that forum.

There's a couple of other names on this guy's list besides Charlie, you can try to reach them. I remember Larry Rarus from RI took over the old Clinton forum Charlie started but that doesn't seem to exist any more. He's on this

list

Since that carbs not that big, you might put it in a large can full of diesel to soak for a week or three.  Set the can in the sun to warm/thin the diesel so it can work into every clevis.  Patience is your friend.

Thank you, sir.  I may very well be in the market for a replacement carb, if my rebuild goes awry.

After seeing Clintonnut's Walbro rebuild presentation, it looks like the main problem will be cleaning the idle jet channels - removing all those tiny plugs and pins.  That's where the main problem with my carb is right now, the engine won't idle down and turning the idle screw in either direction has no effect.  I think that means the idle channels are plugged up.

I ordered a rebuild kit from - https://www.ereplacementparts.com/kit-repair-p-834355.html?osCsid=233108c25mg79q591u55vn20n1

I think you will find that a Carter N from a Kohler K90-91 will make your Clinton run MUCH better over the original Walbro

Thanks.  Looks like I am headed in that direction.  I disassembled the LMG carb today and have the pieces/parts soaking in carb cleaner.  Had some trouble removing the brass plug on top of the idle channel, and ended up putting a hole in it.  Will probably use a small piece of brass rod to replace it.  If that doesn't work, I'll be in the market for a replacement carb.

When I start to fix one thing, I usually break two or three more in the process.  This is why I am reluctant to work on small engines.  One brass plug came out of the Walbro carb easily, but the other one on top of the idle channel was stuck hard.  Had to drill a hole in it and use a drywall screw to grab it and pull it out.  Not a huge problem, though, I can probably replace it with a small piece of solid brass rod.  Everything is soaking in carb cleaner now.  Waiting on the rebuild kit.  We'll see  .  .  .  stay tuned.  :eusa-doh:

Status:  The Walbro rebuild was a bust.  My ham-handed attempt resulted in stripped threads in the bottom post where the bowl/main jet screw attaches.  Not repairable.  (Note to self: I have got to stop over-tightening stuff.)

So I am now in the market for another carb.  Does anyone have a Carter model N to replace my Walbro LMG117?  It goes on a Clinton B1290-1107, RJ-58/59.  I posted an ad in classified/wanted.  One response so far, turned out to be the wrong carb for my Clinton engine.

I assume the following photos show the correct Carter model N configuration.  Correct?

Yes.  Identified several good possibilities.  But I need to confirm that the photos above show the correct configuration.  Photos are all I have to compare.  The Ebay listings don't state that those carbs are suitable for a Clinton B1290.
