Battery Hold Down

Recommended Posts

Looking for info on the correct tie down for the Battery on a 1977 C-120 8 speed model # 71-12K801. The WH Parts book shows # 105504 rod hold down with 2 # 8107 hooks which is basically the same as the 300 series is this correct. When I was at @ebinmaine a few months back his C-160 had a piece of flat stock with what looked like 2 -  1/4-20's possibly tack welded to the battery tray that the flat stock slid over with 2 nuts that appeared to be factory. On the C-120 the hooks do not appear to have anything to attach to and do not seem long enough to just slide under the tray, any help would be appreciated.  Thanks

Yep ,that's correct. The hold down rod lays on top of the battery, the top of the 8107 hooks go thru eyelets on the end of the 105504 hold down rod, the hooks go down either side of the battery and hook into holes in the tray under the battery.

Thanks, I will be bringing the C-120 to Maine next week, I will take another look at it, it did not seem there was anywhere to hook on under the tray ?

Jim I've got a 1974 B80, 1974 c-160, 1974 c100, 1977 c-160, all with that same threaded Rod stud with flat plate holding it on the end. None of mine have the capability of holding a J hook vertically.

I kind of think the 1978 C81 that I sold was that vertical J hook.

@76c12091520hI Looked at the Battery tray and it appears the bottom left hand side of the tray half of the eyelet gone from a little bit of rust over the years, I noticed the slight angle of the left side hook from your picture and found what's left of the eyelet. On the right side looking to the rear from the PTO with a flashlight I could see the hole for the other hook behind the belt guard.   Thanks for the picture and your help. And by the way AWESOME C-120.

I have a 1977 B80 and a 1977 C160, other than the size engine and the hydro on the C160 they are the same tractor. The battery holders look to be original, never been removed, the B80 has the side flat bar holder, the C160 has the L hook holder. The parts manual list two models of the C160 auto for 1977, one in the early part of the year and one in the later part of the year. Mine is from the later part, might be why the tray is different, it's wheel horse who knows :scratchead:. Got a rusty old 603 with parts from 1959 to 1963 a original.
