littleredrider 409 #1 Posted August 1, 2019 So after doing some research, I got 2 Kohler motors, one 10 horse and one 16. I got two shallow oil pans, they're aluminum, but for what I'm doing it will be fine. They are off John Deere's, but again after checking there wasn't any differences between makes, other than cast or aluminum. I trimmed the slinger and went to bolting it on. Only to find out that the holes are 1/4" maybe 1/2" off. As it sits now, with the bearing plate up tight to the frame, the bolts don't line up. Previous owner (assuming him) drilled 2 holes to mount the briggs, other than being slightly too small, they appear to be in the right spot. Did anyone have an issue like this? Not really an huge issue, just was under the assumption it was a bolt in deal. FYI tractor is a 606. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
wallfish 18,114 #2 Posted August 1, 2019 The oil pans for the Kohler engines above 8hp were speced for Wheel Horse and have threaded holes in the bottom of the pan to bolt them directly to the frame. 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Your trying to stuff a big block in a short frame which can be dicey without the correct spec cast pan or using Richard's trick. I have a cast 241 short pan if it would bolt up should you need. littleredrider 409 #6 Posted August 2, 2019 Drilled holes, all lines up, but can't use bolts on the flywheel side. The hex part of the bolt hits the frame. So quick an easy solution is to use all thread and use an L-bracket to tighten in down. I'm bad at pics, since my hands are usually filthy, but I'll snap some pics when I get it bolted down.... littleredrider 409 #8 Posted August 3, 2019 Forgot bout those bolts lol. I have a cheap set of headers for my Yukon, and has those types of bolts, but still uses the hex, just smaller wrench size. But I need to open the holes up lil more, as well as the hole for the drain. And of course, during the middle of doing all this the battery dies for the cordless drill....I really need a garage.
