Pullstart 64,711 #30 Posted August 29, 2019 It fits, but the drive mechanism will need some trimming before it will allow full throw left to right.

Pullstart 64,711 #33 Posted March 27, 2020 I’ve been stepping over this half figured out sickle mower for too long. Now I need to marry the DB gearbox drive to the Jari sickle. I was trying my best to cut the least amount of these as possible, but I think I have hit a little snag. If I shorten the driven arm, I’ll lose crucial side movement on the sickle tooth bar. I’ve also figured on which tractor would best be suited. I’m thinking Hot Wheels.... after a well deserved bath. 4
Pullstart 64,711 #34 Posted March 27, 2020 First time ever using a “death wheel” on a grinder. Great control, huge mess compared to a carbide sawzall blade. I can see pros and cons for both! 1
Tractorhead 9,099 #35 Posted March 27, 2020 I like those „suicide Blades“, how they called here sometimes. As long as you don‘t tilt while cutting, they give you a clean cut without a lot of dirt. I use them often favorited on my Accugrinder, where they have their biggest advances, because of little Mass. 👍 They be just be dangerous under wrong handling or wrong storage.

Pullstart 64,711 #37 Posted March 28, 2020 I turned the head off a 5/8” bolt and polished it up to be a slide pin. 2
8ntruck 7,409 #39 Posted March 28, 2020 Looks good. I was wondering when you were going to get back to this project.
Pullstart 64,711 #40 Posted March 28, 2020 I tacked the bar stock with a razor blade clamped in place for clearance. It seemed to have helped! 1 1
Pullstart 64,711 #41 Posted March 28, 2020 I am toying with mount ideas. These bent bars are from a mower deck that is all rusted and locked up. If I drop the mounts it’ll allow room for the snowblower style flag lift to work. I have some 1x1 tubing that could finish the mount and provide thickness to make up the difference between the 953 frame and DB mounts. Lifted up, I could provide a good 6” clearance under the cutting head. That’s more than your average mower deck lift Tomorrow I’ll yank apart that snowblower for the tensioner and belt to see how that might all run down. 2

Tractorhead 9,099 #43 Posted March 28, 2020 Hi Buddy, i like the idea of the Mount you come up with, i just thinkering how to do an alignment of the sicklebar itself. Think you ain‘t wanna have some „english grass“ like a Golf course, but i see it as an improvement for the usability in any way. For handling that issue, i would put a long hole in the left and right front of the mount, you suggested in 3.Pict. So you are simply able to change the alignment later if needed. Good rework 👍

Good rework 👍 I’m in no need of golf course material, but we have some family who asked if they could have a “redneck wedding” in our back field this fall. I’ll have some grass about 3’ tall to clear... maybe clear some pond land?
Pullstart 64,711 #45 Posted March 28, 2020 Putting some taters in the ground was a flop. Hey, I found something to isolate from the mud!
Pullstart 64,711 #46 Posted March 28, 2020 After using the pickle fork wedges to yank the snowblower pulley off, I see that I’m going to need to shorten the DB framework to allow a closer mount and get the top side of the belt to clear to grille. @953 nut Richard, what is the boss and hole in the side of the grille meant for? It might be a nifty spot for a idler pulley
Pullstart 64,711 #47 Posted March 29, 2020 Change of plans. Hot Wheels is wide and I’m having troubles with belt arrangements. I don’t have anything for Steve to do until now. With the front tach-a-matic I can utilize more snowblower stuff, like the mount and maybe even the tensioner. 1
8ntruck 7,409 #48 Posted March 29, 2020 I'be never used a sickle mower before. Seems like one would want some 'float' in the bar to follow found contour so the ends of the bar won't dig into the ground. The side mount sickle bars have the pivot at the end to do this. Think you will need some sort of flexibility in a front mount sickle - kind of like the pivot in the front axle?

Think you will need some sort of flexibility in a front mount sickle - kind of like the pivot in the front axle? The mower has some feet on the ends to keep it up off the ground. The snowblower mount in the front mount tach-a-matic is quite sloppy too. I imagine it’ll be able to float a bit. If not, I might end up using the adjustment knob on the lift handle to keep it floating. At the end of the day, if it doesn’t work I’ll stick the 36” RD deck back on and use that for mowing the big grass
8ntruck 7,409 #50 Posted March 29, 2020 You're right, the snow thrower mount probably has enough slop to keep things happy.
