Frozen front motorcycle brake cable

Recommended Posts

SylvanLakeWH

Got a 1982 CB 125 S that is up and running...

Only remaining issue is a frozen front brake cable that has been discontinued...

So I have it on an oil drip to see if I can free it up...

Any other thoughts?

I don't know if you can still get them, but I have a couple of cable lubricators from my motorcycle days. The cable fits one end, then you fill with oil then fit the other end. One uses a screw down plunger, the other uses a bicycle pump. I'll take a couple of photo's tomorrow if I remember.

You may find something on e-bay.

BTW. What type of oil are you using? Hydraulic oil is a good rust shifter.

 Here's the photo's I promised. Bit late I know.

The top one you screw down to force the oil through. The bottom one you attach a bicycle pump to force the oil through.

The rubber washer that acts as a seal, is also split and all three go round the outer cable.
