HorseFixer 2,013 #1 Posted April 8, 2009 I have been putting the word out that I wanted a lathe and a friend of mine gave me an old Crapman lathe. It can't do all that I would like, but will work okay for turning bushings and small parts. Hey and after all free is free!
Rollerman 290 #2 Posted April 8, 2009 Duke your gonna like that, I have a small South Bend lathe here with a 12" bed. Thats pretty small...but works great for the small parts like you mentioned. :omg:
linen beige 15 #3 Posted April 8, 2009 That's a great find Duke! Couldn't quiet turn that down could ya. (Get it? "turn down"). Should pay for itself in no time. That is some more kind of good friend that can get you lathed for free. Seriously, you'll be pleasantly surprised how much you can do with one of these. sorekiwi 761 #5 Posted April 8, 2009 Nice score Duke! 90% of the stuff you are gonna want to make is small stuff, and a lathe like that id perfect for that. And big lathes take up valuable tractor space!!
Coadster32 793 #6 Posted April 8, 2009 Lathe's are very handy to have. Smaller parts are a majority of what we need anyhow. Have fun!!
Eriks Red horse herd 120 #7 Posted April 8, 2009 Awsome freind you have Duke to just give you a lathe. I finally got my lathe going after sitting for 4 years. And have been turnning up a storm since. OH BY THE WAY NUMBER ONE SAFETY RULE I SEE IN THE PICTURES IS ( NEVER, NEVER LEAVE THE CHUCK KEY IN THE CHUCK!!!!) I've seen to many accidents happen workin in a machine shop over the years. And thats usually the biggest one! We dont want you bleeding to much more of that precious RED HORSE BLOOD that you've been sheding lately? So PLEASE take the chuck key out, even when not in use! I'd hate to have your name changed from HORSEFIXER to BLINDFIXER or even DEADFIXER. I take my saftey pretty serious!! GET IN THE HABIT AND TAKE OUT THAT T-WRENCH OUT EVERY TIME! I'll quit preaching now and let you bask in the your find.

whchris 5 #11 Posted April 8, 2009 well to finally explain to you all why i am the way i am , i took a chuck key to the back of the head my sophomore year in high school (nah i was about 40 feet away so it was just a little thunk but now the lathes at the school have a neat little guard that wont let the machine run if its not closed and it wont close with the chuck key in
GlenPettit 1,717 #12 Posted April 8, 2009 Boy do you ever have a lot of good friends that take care of you, way-to-go. Now I know who to call for something, or better yet, go and see. "That's not blood already on your new REAL machine (as compared to all the new overseas stuff)?" Glen
