JCM 10,223 #1 Posted June 5, 2019 Do any of you outdoors people have a favorite cooler that will hold at least a weekend full of food and or hold a good amount of 12 oz cans of your favorite beverage and keep ice for 2 or 3 days without being full of water in 1 day without numerous trips to buy bagged ice? Are the Yeti and other similar ones really worth what they get for them. As far as camp chairs go we have had 2 that we bought about 9 years ago at L.L.BEAN under the Strongback brand and 1 failed last year and the other last week. We sure got our money's worth out of those chairs and it appears Bean may not carry that Brand any longer. Looking to replace both with heavy duty replacement's.If you want to get a good laugh while sitting around a campfire watch one of those flatten out in front of your eye's. ONLY funny if the seated person doesn't get hurt. Thanks
ebinmaine 72,701 #2 Posted June 5, 2019 As you're well aware we spend A LOT of time outdoors. My experience with camp chairs along the people I've known is that if you're below about 225 lb it's just based on your own comfort and preferences based on height and angle Etc. I am not anything to do with below 225 lb. I'll check my own personal chair when I get home and let you know what it is. As far as coolers, I'm just way too cheap to spend the money on a yeti although the people that have them love them as far as I know. if we are out in the middle of the Great North Mainuh Woods we live out of our cooler for 3 or 4 days. We have a pretty sizeable cooler and it seems to keep ice until the afternoon of the third day. We've learned to Pace our food supplies they need to be refrigerated, based on that.
Pullstart 66,776 #3 Posted June 5, 2019 This one keeps ice for 2 days, things stay cool for 3 if there’s left overs! My mom keeps a Yeti cooler in her car and ice will stay for close to a week in that thing! If you’re serious about using it, I don’t think there’s a better product line out there right now.
The Tuul Crib 7,339 #4 Posted June 5, 2019 Little pricey but well worth it would be a yeti . They come in different sizes and they will keep it cold and takes a good while to melt the ice inside.

wallfish 18,108 #6 Posted June 5, 2019 Go with block ice instead of cubes. If no one sells it in your area freeze 2 Liter plastic bottles of water. The larger the piece of ice the longer it takes to melt. Even a cheap cooler will hold block ice for days. plus less water and less mess 7

I would freeze a Cool Whip container full of water for my ice block. Still half froze by the end of the day and just refreeze it.
Blackhood Bill 722 #8 Posted June 6, 2019 Also you actually want a small amount of water in the cooler. It will help keep the cold in. What happens is it transfers to the items easier than just having ice alone. Key is to keep the water to a minimum so not to melt the ice.

ClassicTractorProfessor 5,371 #10 Posted June 6, 2019 This is the cooler I bought a couple years ago when driving truck in the oilfield. We had a large Igloo that we kept in the pickup at the rig full of water for all the drivers...fill it with ice on the way to work and by 5:00 our ice was gone and drinks were warm. So went to Walmart and bought one of these. Even with three of us drivers in and out of it all day, it would easily keep ice for 3-4 days. The key to these coolers is in how many times a day you open and close them, and keeping them sealed up when not in them. I have friends who went out and paid the overly ridiculous price for the Yeti, and they agree that mine works just as well for a fraction of the cost. I also have one of the Ozark Trail tumblers my little sis give me for Christmas a couple yrs ago, can’t make any claims about how long it will keep drinks cold (don’t think it’s ever had a cold drink in it) but I can fill it with coffee at 7:30 on my way to work and it will still be hot at 3 in the afternoon (if the coffee makes it that long ) As far as chairs I have no input, curious to see what others have to say as well. I’m wanting to buy a couple to keep in the rv
Mows4three 826 #11 Posted June 6, 2019 I have some friends that swear by a YETI cooler, but they also pay ungodly high prices on car repairs to be able to say they drive a BMW. Sorry, but I'm not from the jet set, I come from the old Chevrolet set (John Prine reference intended). We have a Coleman Extreme with wheels and a handle on it. Coleman's claim is it will keep ice five days. Don't ever think we ran out of ice before we used up our food or drinks. It was around $45.00, ten years ago. I don't know if they are still made. The store where we got ours is no longer in business. It's been a very serviceable cooler and easy to pull a long distance when loaded. Caveat: The wheels are too small to haul across the sand at the beach. A couple buddies feel like me about the YETI line but wanted durable coolers for back country 4-wheeling. They bought the Ozark Trail line of coolers from Wally-World. No issues. Value priced, long term cooling ability in a foam filled plastic box and no problems keeping the lid in place when it gets tossed around in the bed of your truck. An Ozark Trail cooler would be my recommendation if you are looking for a durable ice keeper and are willing to pay a bit more than you would for a Coleman Extreme.
