ericschevy2004 1 #1 Posted May 28, 2019 Has anyone ever had to replace the wheelhorse kohler k series engine isolaters and not wanted to fork out a small fortune for them? Found a repop, aftermarket or alternative? Toro 108309 MOUNT ISOLATION
oliver2-44 10,679 #2 Posted May 28, 2019 Click on this thread and it will show you a source for replacing them with solid mounts. There are also some threads on here (somewhere!) on replacing them with a combination of washers. Many have found the rubber mounts do not improve the tractors smoothness or actually reduce vibration. Thats probable why WH didn't use them for very many years. 1

Good luck getting them, I tried for a year to get a set. Brian said he didn't have any at the time, but would be making some soon, three phone calls and two emails for a year, nothing. That was 3 years ago, he may have some now, I gave up. I've said this before Brian has an amazing site, but his customer service is another story. I though by now Lowell would be making the solid ones.
oliver2-44 10,679 #5 Posted May 28, 2019 This thread has a picture and dimensions to make your own solid steel engine mounts. You could possible use a stack of two sizes of washers to do the same thing.
ericschevy2004 1 #6 Posted May 29, 2019 Thanks guys, I know I need to do something about it because it's been causing the tractor to blow about 2 belts a year. Of course the cost of the belts nearly offsets the price of the isolaters😂

I believe the rocker plate design does not decrease vibration and it causes early belt failure. Allowing the engine to move causes a high frequency alternating load on the drive belt. Bolt it solid to the frame.
Dakota8338 115 #8 Posted June 2, 2019 I replaced mine many years ago, when I was doing some maintenance on the 1979 C-141, and the new ones did absolutely zilch for reducing any vibration over the old ones. (I put the old mounts up, but I probably could not find them today, if my life was held in the balance.) But I never had any belt problem either.
Mickwhitt 5,114 #9 Posted October 10, 2019 I'm having the same issue with shot engine mount rubbers. It would be far easier to turn a set of solid mounts on the lathe so that's my next job. Maybe a sandwich with a rubber washer between for some damping effect? Mick
Mickwhitt 5,114 #10 Posted October 10, 2019 I will turn one up in aluminium and see how it looks, I'm pretty sure that aluminium will be strong enough. No need for fixing to the shaker plate as it will be held in compression by the centre bolt. Watch this space. Mick

Mickwhitt 5,114 #12 Posted October 10, 2019 Thanks Red, means a lot that I'm doing something right. I'm a lone shop machinist doing my own thing and working it out as I go along. Self taught I'm not doing too bad. Assisted by you guys of course. Mick

The Tuul Crib 7,339 #14 Posted October 10, 2019 I would much rather have them bolted to the frame myself. I just like to feel the vibration of a K motor under my seat !!

Mickwhitt 5,114 #16 Posted October 11, 2019 They look very solid and a great bit of machining. I am just talking to a firm here in the UK who specialise in rubber mounting so I'll report back if I have any joy. I have ordered a bar of aluminium and will make a set up to see how things compare. Burnerman 759 #17 Posted October 11, 2019 The solid mounts are a huge improvement! I installed a set from Zach and I’m very happy with the result. You will be amazed at the difference!

If the Brian you're referring to is Brian Miller, yeah, he's in jail for kiddy diddling. Nobody has been able to contact him, except for a few people who buy something then with no communication it just shows up at their door. It's rare.
