jerrell 1 #1 Posted April 5, 2009 This came to me by em and i didn't know the song, can you guess what song it is??? day is done,,, gone the sun from the lakes from the hills from the sky all is well safety rest god is nigh fading light dims the sight and a star gems the sky gleaming bright from afar drawing nigh falls the night thanks and praise for our days neath the stars neath the sky as we go this we know god is nigh answer TAPS, i have heard this played all my life and never knew the words... (the orgin) A union captain was in a battle at Harrison's Landing Virginia, during the night the captain heard moans of a soldier wounded in the field, the captain crawled out on the battlefield and brought the soldier back to his lines, only then to find out that the soldier was his son who had joined the southern army, the soldier died and the captain ask for permission from his superiors to play a sheet of music found on his son's body, the superiors granted only a bugler, hence TAPS was born... i simplified this a great deal as it was a lengthly and heartbreaking story , how many guess the name before reading the answer

stevasaurus 23,274 #5 Posted April 6, 2009 Chris...I wouldn't use the word stupid. Being in scouts while you are in junior high and high school is never easy. We all make a lot of choices at that age, and looking back...I would change some of them myself. I and my brother would not have made Eagle, if it were not for my dad pushing us. Perhaps he made a choice he would have changed that made it important to us kids to stick with it and not give up. Now... I am proud of those days and the choice to make it happen. You are right to tell the young members about choices they have to make...and to think about what is worth while. Nothing stupid about it...learning from it is what is important. Quite honestly...I miss those days :omg:
