LengerichKA88 1,881 #1 Posted May 19, 2019 I know from previous threads there are a few guys here that are into bicycles as well. I was thinking of putting one of those motorized kits on this for the son when he’s a little older, but know nothing about these bikes. I don’t want to do something to it if it’s of any real value. Im going to do some digging but thought it was worth a shot to ask here too.
JAinVA 4,619 #2 Posted May 19, 2019 Twenty inch bikes with the banana seat were all the rage when I was a young teen. That was many decades and wrinkles ago. 1

I would’ve rather had one like that than what I had as a kid. My dad and his siblings bikes were what we rode at our lake place, mostly Stingrays, and I always preferred those bikes to the one at home.
AMC RULES 36,945 #4 Posted May 19, 2019 Can't remember ever running across a Columbia banana seat following... so, it seems like the perfect candidate to me.
Stormin 9,975 #5 Posted May 19, 2019 Why motorise it? He'd be fitter peddling it. Mind I've some room to talk. Only been out on my bike once this year.

I had several BMX/freestyle bikes when in my teens and 20s. When I was young one of my sisters had a bike with a banananananana seat. I used to love it for it's balance and the ability to ride wheelies. Nowadays I have a collection of 26" bikes. A few road bikes and a few mountain bikes. All older stuff. (80s, 90s) We only get to riding them a couple times a year because of doing a zillion other activities. I'd say give it a tune-up and some new rolling stock and toss him on it.
LengerichKA88 1,881 #7 Posted May 19, 2019 I liked the idea of putting the motor on it for the “Cool dad/ I wish I’d had one” factors to be completely honest 🤷🏻♂️ Haha. Also to foster mechanical work and/or racing as possible shared interests down the line. Im not worried about him being in shape, the kid runs laps when he’s bored. 😂
