We get a day free this summer and after the asparagus is done I'd like to have the local circle come over and turn over the small field again and play in the dirt. I need to move the asparagus out of the way of the plow field. Wished I wouldn't have planted it there now but who knew at the time I was gonna get plowing fever!

 

@gwest_ca is the rest of this 701/K161 manual in the files? Is so I can't find it.

 

I see it's missing the usual & valuable hard to find belt guard. :)

:confusion-confused:   Having the spark retard cam I wonder if the timing marks on the flywheel would have to be different than others to allow for Static Timing? Seems like the timing at rest would show up at or near TDC rather than advanced twenty degrees.  :confusion-shrug:

Would be easy check for me, during assembly I highlighted the stamps on the flywheel with white paint for easy looking. There were two marks. One for TDC and one for advance I'm guessing. I have one of those old skool things called a timing light I always wanted to try.

I’m guessing I’ve got this right...  a shortened dipper requires a balanced crank?  It plays with the rotating mass, so it would have to.... right?

I just had to know!   I had great results with static timing on one of my 953s which has Spec suffix "A" and couldn't quite wrap my head around the idea the it would work with a spark advance cam. Took a look inside and found that it has an ACR cam. Out of curiosity I checked it with a Timing Light and it was dead on.

One of the others I have has the spark advance cam, so I think it wouldn't be a candidate for static timing. One of these days I may give it a try and see what the results are, let you know when that happens.
