Will a Kohler carb fit a Tecumseh? Project Teck-ohler?

Ok, here’s a Commando 6 with an H60 that I picked up.  For now, my quest is to see if a Kohler carb will run the machine.  First things first, drain the nasty fuel out of the system.  The linkages on this machine are severely customized, but the Tecky governor at least functions.  The choke obviously does not function a complete motion due to the slop in the custom linkages but between the two carbs, I don’t see much difference.

Here is some baseline detail of the throttle at idle and wide open, along with choke operation.  The exhaust has been modified and bugger welded quite heavily, that’ll change some day too.

:confusion-confused:       Kevin, it looks like you have some P.O. modification to repair, but know you can do it!        :handgestures-thumbupright:

You may not need the cast iron spacer behind the carb.  Tech carb bodies are short  the throttle butterfly on some sticks out past the carb body. at full throttle

There’s an adapter plate of sorts on the Tecky and it appears on the 656 as well.... even though neither engines appear stock.  The Tecky carb measures about .808” and the Kohler about .820”.

but it fits!  I don’t expect this carb to run flawless and will likely get a new eBay carb, but I’d rather tune the Kohler than most others!

The throttle linkage is a bit short to idle down and the choke cable will need to be re-routed.

It looks like the block is tapped offset to fit the plate, so I’m going to see how things work with it.... for now.

So, with some more measurements, the idle setscrew was the limiter, not the governor rod.  Backing the screw out all the way, I am pretty much spot on for the rod.... so I’m running with what I’ve got!  The choke will be handled via replacement cable most likely.  This one appears way too short regardless.
