The biggest trees on my property that are hardwood are only about 24 inches across. That said, when I had to pull Cinnamon out of the forest with Patriot, I did kind of wish I had a better winching system. That would be a good thought for a small crane. WVHillbilly520H 10,376 #27 Posted April 23, 2019 Those blocks of wild cherry I cut up recently were at the top of my capacity. Sorta wish I had said lifting device...i think Jim @JAinVA has one on his splitter if not I believe someone here on RS does.
JAinVA 4,636 #28 Posted April 23, 2019 (edited) Picture of the splitter and truck crane.Pink verticle pipe to the right is the crane mast.Black box attached to it is the winch control box.Once split in two the one piece is left hanging on the crane and the lift arm rotates out of the way. That round is Red Oak 24" in diameter and 18" long.I don't know what it weighed but I know I couldn't lift it. . ebinmaine 71,580 #29 Posted April 23, 2019 I'll tell you what it weighs... A lot. We had a red oak get blown down two years ago I think? The largest piece I tried to move was maybe 18 or 20 inches across but only 16 inches long or even a little less. I'm not exactly what you'd call a small fellow and that was all I could do to move. Darb1964 1,101 #30 Posted April 23, 2019 Eric love that splitter, the tall tires are nice. My old splitter is waiting way out back for a chance to work again. Should sell it but took me so long back in the day to get the money saved up to get can't seem to let let it go. I'd name yours big beast of big chomp. 1

I had next to nothing in the camper except for those tires so I kept them when I sold it. I put them on that splitter because I needed to change the hubs and wheel bearings and it still had those little 8" wheels on it. These bigger ones are Soo much better for rolling over stuff in the forest. And it also makes it much taller for splitting so you don't have to bend over anywhere near as much if at all.
