ebinmaine 63,150 #1 Posted April 21, 2019 Starting out with the cinnamon horse attached to the splitter. Trina and her mom are working on splitting up a small pile of the wood we cleared from the future horse stable. After we finish up in the driveway here we will pop the grader blade off of Trina's 867 and tow a couple trailers down into the forest. One is the splitter itself and another one for hauling the firewood pieces back up out of the forest where they go to dry. More pics to follow later but here's one to whet your appetite. 7

Okay okay okay This one is what we call a teaser... technically there's no Wheelhorse stuff in here but there is the chainsaw that I've been using which is the one I got for free from my sister because her husband couldn't get it to work right when he was cutting dirt. Good at Finance. Not so good at machinery. Did I say that out loud? Oh yeah, the uhh... generator... Yeah that's a Kohler k582... That'll be a post before very long. The coil that's on it is garbage but I have another one sitting on the shelf that I got off of fleeeeBay. 1

ebinmaine 63,150 #8 Posted April 21, 2019 Time to switch trailers and get the wood hauler I had Trina take a picture with me beside this pile because I wanted to show you all how much snow we had here. Back in maybe February? I took some wood off the top of this pile but I had to stop when I got to the snow. So whatever you can see of this file was entirely covered in snow. 4

It was an auction cheapie and is currently set up for propane. I’ll try to get it running some day! If you have Genny questions, @Achto works on some slightly bigger ones, if I understand correctly.... 1

This is the one that we picked up at the auction last August. I bought it specifically for the trailer so I can use it around the yard but when I got it back I realized the contents of said trailer. I really don't particularly care if the generator works so much as if the engine runs. Well people. We had to do a rescue mission for the Cinnamon Horse. I'm going to need a carburetor for that. I went back up to the yard and got the Patriot horse and pulled it back up out of the woods. I was going to try to get some pictures but there was nobody to run the camera because I was on one tractor and Trina was on the other.
ebinmaine 63,150 #13 Posted April 21, 2019 You look down through the woods and you can see where the trailer is sitting and there's a pile of wood just to the right of it. Nice area. Little stream in the foreground that we have to cross.

If you should want to switch that engine to gasoline, you will have to take a close at the timing. I'm not sure about the older ones but I know that the timing was advanced a lot on later Kohler's that were set up for LP. I wanna say it was advanced to 26 degrees BTDC, if I remember right. I converted a Kohler Command from LP to gas, had to change the fly wheel, and the cylinder heads. Edited April 22, 2019 by Achto

12Horse Paladin 1,038 #20 Posted April 23, 2019 I LOVE your pictures! Especially of Dog, helping... You live in pretty country, too (reminds me of Home); your pics made me think of maybe not-so-long-ago, when my family did the same thing, the same way. Though in the beginning, I split a lot of firewood with a splitting maul, before Dad built the 1st of 3 log splitters he put together, over the years. There was 1 or two WH's doing the skidding of logs/hauling of split wood and the splitter, and always Dog (sometimes 2). I love the look of yours...all business; a good alarm if anyone unexpected shows up with machinery running, I bet, lol. I sure wish we had taken more pics back then... Again, really enjoyed your pics/this thread; thanks for sharing.

What is the max diameter you can split with it? Yeah we are! That splitter was hand built by a local logger. He used to be given the bottom butt ends of the trees by his boss. Pita for him to handle but it was free firewood. He built it specifically to split those butt ends. Max diameter... Well, there isn't one. Basically whatever I can lift, it will split.

rmaynard 14,898 #24 Posted April 23, 2019 So not to be outdone, I'm in tree cutting mode now myself. This is what is left of 9 oak trees, 80 to 100 feet tall and 8 to 30 inches in diameter. We don't burn wood any longer, so all of this is being donated. "You split, you git".
