Bad purchase?

I like it a bit of engineering genius , internal fins cast into the aluminum oil pan to assist with keeping the oil cool.

If you were to sleeve that engine back to a standard bore I have a nice set of standard piston with std connecting rods for your build.

Ouch, the Tractor looks very good, but the Engine looks sadly bad.

i would ask an Motor reconditioner, if he is able to prepare for a slide bushing.

If yes, you are able to use standart piston and connecting rods, but that only makes sense,

if the other cylinder is in much better condition, what i doubt.

On the other hand a replacement engine is mostly nearly at the same cost, including the complete rework to fit.

I like old irons and make best experiences with onanparts.com with parts for my old Onan Engine.

- quick delivery and fair price, but in that case what i’ve seen on that picts, i would replace the Engine.

It depends on the general condition on the rest of the Engine, but a replaceengine is maybe easier to get

than this repair, except you have the complete Toolset and like rework the Engine yourself.

If you decide to rework that engine,

let make the basics Bore and slidebushing and rework of crankshaft at the Engine shop even fix the Valves seats.

(if you are doing this, make it right)

Then, if you are with mechanical skills (i don‘t know you) , You can do a lot of work yourself and save some Money.

With Flexhohne you can do youself a 72 degrees honing, where this should be here on my site a big costfactor,

exchange all Bearrings because of hidden splitters they occur sooner or later,

refit all parts....

but that was a lot of work and you need the place for and it costs also some Money.

All in all, take a look maybe at the Big Show, for an exchange- Engine that runs.

Or you search for a easy changable new Engine (what i have finally done with mine 212).

this should be more costeffective and this would be my scenario - just I.M.H.O.

So, can any of you Onan fan's tell me if the parts(connecting rods & crank shaft) are interchangeable on these P220g's?

You can get a complete rebuild kit from onan parts.com. Last time I checked I believe they offer a solid rod? Supposedly stronger than oem

Well I solved my blown engine problem. I was constantly scanning all the for sale sights looking for a donor tractor. I got lucky I think, I found a guy parting out a 520h with a good motor, 520+ hrs., I had to drive 2 hrs, to get it, but I think it was worth it. I got it installed and it fired right up, it was surging, found a spring missing, fixed that. Buttoned everything else up, put the mower deck back on and headed out to mow extremely wet and high grass. The motor ran very strong and the only issue I had was some belt slippage, but under the conditions I wasn't surprised.  At least now I have some spare parts from the other engine, starter, carburetor, etc..
