Lee1977 7,232 #6 Posted April 2, 2019 I don't thing the belt guard has anything to do with the valve seat problem. It's the engine cover and the cooling fins along with along with the dust and oil from changing the oil filter. A remote oil filter would be a better fix, just don't know where you could locate it. JAinVA 4,638 #10 Posted April 3, 2019 (edited) I have seen since I have started visiting here there has been strong opinions about whether this mod helps with valve seat issues on the Onan or not.Everyone has an opinion on that but two facts are not in dispute,Rear cylinder airflow is increased and it makes monitoring for blockage and cleaning easier. BESTDOGEVER 218 #12 Posted April 3, 2019 The gunk under the tins is part of the problem but if you look at how a Kohler fits on the frame it will convince you that opening up the belt guard is not a waste of time. JAinVA 4,638 #14 Posted April 3, 2019 (edited) I lost my c120 due to grass clippings lodged in the tins.At the time I had no idea they were there and the resulting fire scared the crap out of me since I had just fueled up.I do believe that any engine used can have some issues if you don't know what to be careful of.You can believe I pay attention to build up and hope you guys can learn from my error. Ed Kennell 42,225 #15 Posted April 3, 2019 Obviously anything you can do to reduce the temperature of the rear cylinder is a good thing. The base the oil filter screws into is prone to leaks. It is only fastened by two small bolts and has a very narrow gasket area. If there are any oil leaks at all, the oil is blown across the cooling fins and every blade of grass sucked in by the fan sticks to the fins. The other problem I see is the missing grommet that seals the oil filter to the tin shroud. 3 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

The cab stays 30 degrees warmer than outside temp.
