Digger 66 3,476 #1 Posted March 31, 2019 2 things I will be (finally) tackling in a few weeks : 1) Going to address the old rusty battery tray ( with no hold-down ) that was there since I brought this machine home . 2) Going to see if I can put this seat off of an old rear engine rider in place of the goofy ( but comfy ) boat seat that was given to me years ago . Digger 66 3,476 #4 Posted May 11, 2019 Here's an update on the battery tray project : Got her out last night and it appears ( in the pic on the left ) one of the end studs had been broken off and a new piece had been drilled and added . Was the battery supposed to be held in place solely by one end plate squashing it into the fixed end plate on the other end of the tray ? I'm going to pre-drill the outer piece of steel so when I do get a battery , I can slip it in and see how much material I'll have to add to it ( thick piece or rubber maybe ) to make it fit snug once it's bolted against the battery . We have used strips of felt like you would put on the bottom of furniture. Purchased at Big Box stores. Self stick on one side so it stays in place very very well. 8ntruck 6,358 #16 Posted June 6, 2019 Your battery box looks the same as the one on my 1973 14 8 speed, except that I am missing the strap that bolts across the end. I'm thinking that the old batteries had bosses in the sides of the case that would have fit under the straps in the sides of the battery tray, thus, eliminating the need for a strap over the battery. Coming up with some sort of battery hold down is also on my to do list in the near future. The current set up (cluge?) is a bungee cord wrapped around the battery. The older horses don't use anything to go over the top of the battery and should not need it if the tray is sized right.
