I haven’t been as active lately, as some of my other hobbies have pulled me back in. One of my other hobbies is photography, specifically nature. As I’m an avid gardener, I got started kind of on accident by taking pictures of various plants so that I could send them to family and friends to show them off.  Then I started to notice that I was pretty good at sneaking up on the critters that inhabited said plants, so I started taking pictures of them. My aunt directed me to a website to submit my pictures to, and now I believe I have over a dozen photos that have been published to it.

I submitted a bunch of different photos and never heard back from the lady that runs the site, so I eventually forgot about them. I recently heard from her again (life got her busy, who’d have thunk 🤷🏻‍♂️) and she’s posted some more of my photos. Because of this I’ve been gearing up on all fronts to make this year a good gardening year. I’ve also been getting my camera ready, lookin into new lenses, and looking into ways to attract and House certain types of insects.

Now, some of you may enjoy the pictures, but with spring coming, I thought it might be helpful to post a link to the site to help identify any critters you may come across putting your Horses to work this year.

The link to the site, as well as some of my pictures, can be found below.

It takes some skill to get the right angle!  How far away (the thumb pic is self explanatory) are you in most pictures?  Is it the work of zoom, or stealthy most?

A mix of both lol. All of these photos were actually taken with my phone. (iPhone 8 Plus) A mix of 2x Zoom and sneaking close. I’m usually no farther than 4-12in.

Thanks! I wish I knew where I put the SD card from the camera.  I have a bunch more on there, but I set it in a place where it would be safe and I wouldn’t lose it.

One things for sure: it’s safe 🤷🏻‍♂️

Heres another wide ranging collection of the ones I have on hand. Half of my time out in the yard last year was looking for things to shoot. It just amazes me that on such a small piece of land (5/8ths acre), we have such a wide variety of things that live, here. We have insects and plants that spend their entire life cycle in our yard, when you think about it it’s crazy. This year I’m going to put out a mason bee house, and I’m going to plant more pollinator attracting plants as well.

For each one of the good ones there’s 10 that I delete. Not to mention all the ones that get away as soon as I get a decent shot lined up haha.

That sounds about right I guess. Trina takes a bunch of pictures at every hike we go on.

She does a calendar every year that we pass out to our friends and family locally.

Two years ago we were quite busy with hiking and she took almost 2,000 photos!

It’s easy to take that many, the hard part is deciding which ones are worth keeping haha.

If I had the land you do I’d probably take that many too

Oh yeah.

Now just imagine sorting through all those and keeping about 45-50 to put in her calendar.

Takes a few days......

Yes and no.... my interests are in wine, I don’t have a taste for beer much anymore. I wanted to grow them because my grandpa did, and these rhizomes were cut from his. Last year was their first year, ended up with about 5oz of dried flower. Sent them to a guy in Cincinnati for the cost of shipping. They get used for beer, just not by me lol.

They also bring a wider variety of critters around, which in turn helps the grapes they grow alongside.

Thanks Kyle. I'll talk to her about it. I had that thought last fall.

We would sell them for little to no more than what she's got into them. Plus freight.

I don't know what it cost to mail an oversized envelope but I'll bet it would be some under $10.

Well worth it for a limited run, original art piece to me!

When the time comes, let me know, I’d be happy to give ya more of my money 😂😂
