Should I have to prime a K341 fuel pump/carb?

My gosh that's a beautiful engine Eric!   Very smooth!

By chance do you have a tach you can throw on her?  (my one good ear was hearing a little north of 3600 ).

Very nice Eric, and congratulations, but ...

Have you checked your top engine speed with a tach?  Sounds high to me, maybe.

Don't want to see anything awful happen to that beautiful engine!

Thank you guys. I appreciate your good ear there.

Let me answer that in 2 halves.

1. I have a DVOM and I would like instructions as to how to set the high idle.

2. To be completely honest with you I pretty much NEVER run any of my engines at full throttle. All of our tractors are gear transmissions and we have no engine driven implements.

I would like to have it correct, though.

I use an inductive hardline tach/hour meter where you simply wrap a wire around your plug wire and tune-away.

One word of caution, they usually have a default for a spark on every revolution (wasted spark on the exhaust stroke).  Our Kohlers only fire at the top of the compression stroke so you either have to monkey with the settings for 1 spark / 2 revolutions or multiply the RPM reading by 2.

I've only ever checked mine with an older automotive tach.  I don't remember the details, but it's pretty straightforward.

There's also inexpensive laser tachs that others here have used, I'm sure somebody else who's used one will chime in .

I use one of these.  Checked when i first got it against a good mechanical tach seemed accurate

That's the one I use, works great, just put a little of the reflective tape on the flywheel screen, then point and shoot.

I have a  laser tach,  and one of these: images.jpg.302e0ab585dc842dad0bf5e146b8d2e5.jpg I'm going to try the multimeter trick. are the number of turns on the coil wire critical?

Definitely get the RPM checked Sounds over 4000 to me! :auto-driving:

Mmmm…  It's a bit more complicated than this drawing would indicate.  Here's the complete thread for anybody who wants to give it a shot (I'll pass, but thanks):

You folks think maybe I've got a spring in the incorrect notch?

That adjusts the governor sensitivity you have to adjust the high speed stop.

Ah ya ya ya .....

You know what my engine doesn't have?

A high speed stop....

I'll "borrow" one from the parts pile.

The winner!!!!

One of our hiking friends was over for a visit today and this was also her suggestion.

Worked perfectly.

That color looks sharp in contrast to the frame/body.

Really like that.

Hey thanks!

We've done 2 full restorations and some partials.

3 of our engines are/were that Navajo White.

Cinnamon Horse, of course.

Trina's 657 Pony.

One I've since sold...

Looks good.

Highly likely we'll do that again.  Or more...
