You need to be a little more specific, The K 301 was used in a lot of different models and had a variety of ignition types over the years.

Hi Larry.

We'd still need a model number of the tractor to answer.

There were several different configurations used with that engine over the years.

I'm curious to know why you're changing to a lever switch and push button.

What parts are bad and what have you done to test that knowledge?

You can buy a new ignition switch for less than $20 at most parts stores and certainly online.

Then you would keep the wiring harness in place for future diagnosis and also save the work of re-wiring.

Ahh

Ok

Is the 12 a battery ignition/ Points  engine or a module/ trigger fire?

There are great diagrams here on the site to rewire your tractor.

If anyone is young or not familiar with the equipment please be sure to put the safety switches back in play.
