It should be there. This illustration looks like it is angle iron instead of flat bar and the earlier models of blade do not show anything between them. Since the A-frame fits between the brackets it is important that the axle mounts be properly spaced to capture the round A-frame cross bar. Likely an improvement made to make sure the ends of the bar did not fall out. The later design had the A-frame outside the axle brackets so the round bar could not fall out.

No idea what it is. Looks like a brake pad riveted to it that would stop a belt or idler from turning when that drive was disengaged. Have looked at every attachment I can think of and don't see it.

That almost looks like a later model vertical shaft engine deck pulley brake - definitely doesn't belong on your '66 anywhere.

 

Have identified exactly what model Sundstrand hydrogear is currently installed?
