Pullstart 64,798 #151 Posted April 23 I made a list of things to accomplish on the belt guard. One major issue is the air filter. There is about 7/8” between the carb top and the hood. I have an idea. 1

With a hole in the center for the air intake. And then attach a external air filter to that how ever that would have to work with space. But it will be interesting to see what you come up with.

Surprisingly, a PTO clutch plate perfectly bolts to the top of the carb. I found an air filter that will fit down over the carb. So, a little cutting and welding magicery should allow it all to work in conjunction with each other.
p38js 423 #154 Posted April 23 Looks good Kevin, can’t wait to see it! I did hear the engine run before I bought it, the gentleman I got it from started it on the floor of his shop. But that has been several years ago. 1

953 nut 58,191 #158 Posted April 25 Here is what I would do for the air filter, The top could be an old hubcap ore something else that would be interesting.

Yes Mr. Richard, that’s pretty much my plan. check out how perfect this PTO clutch plate fits that carb! 1
Pullstart 64,798 #160 Posted April 25 As for a lid, I really think the hood might become the lid! This filter is rated for 27 hp.
Pullstart 64,798 #161 Posted April 25 Yay! I found the stock air cleaner, dash, the Bud Andrews muffler (not sure if we will use it yet) and some other goodies! The stock air cleaner looks like it just needs to be trimmed down, then it’ll be an open element machine. Pretty ok for a mostly show cruiser!
Pullstart 64,798 #162 Posted April 27 I have to admit. I never actually tried to back this pipe out. The way it moved so quick, it could have been able to twist out. But it was a great opportunity to make a video and explain the idea of tightening might work when loosening does not. 1 1
D_Mac 9,182 #163 Posted April 27 Kevin you can try they way my old homemade was done. Had like rubber gasket on both sides of the hood. Air filter went through the hood and when hood open and closed it fit tight over the carb. Hard to see from pictures i have but it worked well. in my opinion looked pretty good too.
Pullstart 64,798 #164 Posted April 27 I think I have figured a way to conceal it. Just a little trimming of the stock components and a little welder grinder work should get it.
Pullstart 64,798 #165 Posted April 29 I am no betting man, unless it’s loading a trailer or something easy, but I think this will sound great! It’s just tacked up. I want to get some rear hangers, square it up and level it, then final weld it. 1 3

There is a set of two convoluted and twisted 1/2” washers inside the pipe. They are from my original “Steve” C-81 long tube exhaust system. 4 minutes ago, kpinnc said: That will help warm the hydro in cold weather! I am hoping the distance to the hydro components will allow some heat dissipation. If not, some cool heat shields on stand offs might be in order.

I'm sure it won't hurt anything. ...Maybe if you lived in Australia or somewhere crazy hot.

Ive been concerned that the pipe wasn’t large enough. Then I finished the dual exhaust today with a stick of pipe I recall running under a 2.3l 4 cylinder powered Ford Ranger. Ok, it should be alright for 16 Horse Powers…

Pullstart 64,798 #174 Posted May 2 Today I finally nailed down an intake/air filter. I started with an idea, and held the filter in place for concept. It’s very GT14 like, eh?
Pullstart 64,798 #175 Posted May 2 Lots of chopping, and welding, and fitting, and a few bumps and bruises finally, and I got an intake built. 2
