How slow can a Onan Vertical operates without damage?

Recommended Posts

Tractorhead

The Base line tells my question,

i have an Onan E125V-N  Vertical Engine mount.

In the Operating manual the engine is given by 1850 rpm idlespeed.

like to know, how slow i can it drop down, without any kind of problems or defects.

i like to drop the idle speed for about 800-900 RPM like a motorcycle.

would this low rpm in continouse use harm the Engine ?

and if yes, why

thanks for clearing

Stefan

953 nut

There is a reason that the manufacturer calls for 1850. On any splash lubricated air cooled engine it will not have adequate lubrication or cooling if operated at low RPMs.

you're right, about splash lubricated Engines, but i read in the pdf about that Onan Engine,

That it have a Pump- Oil System

A pump driven by one of the balancer shafts pro-
vides pressure lubrication of the connecting rod
journal through drilled passages in the crankcase
and crankshaft. An oil hole in the crank arm pro-
vides spray lubrication of the piston, cylinder walls,
and other crankcase components.

The only issue, i see for troubles, shall be the decompression system,

if engine idle will getting too low, then it opens the exhaust Valve and the Engine stalls.

WHX??

These are pressure fed motors Richard.

1850 is way too high & gotta be a typo.

I did not see it in this manual but I didn't read the whole thing

492-4714 Onan E125V & E140V SM.pdf

But here Is out of that manual

This is in the same manual

There is also a way to check the oil pressure on these engines. I would set the idle at 850 rpm and check the pressure.

Hi,

i read the same Manual, but i didn't read the last quote.

maybe i am to tired, it's late.... *g* otherwise i think i need 🤓

😂

to measure the Oilpressure while slowdown the idle, is a real good Idea.

thanks for

Stefan.
