Perhaps your memory slot went bad. It has happened to me in the past.

It appears you have reached the limit that your mother board will recognize...trying to add more will do no good. If you want faster and better , I'd say it's time to replace the pc

You may need to go into your BIOS and ck and see if there is a setting for memory slots that you will have to enable. What year is the motherboard?

Well dummy me went back and reread this thread... Have you swapped your memory sticks around? In other words do both 256m sticks work? are the edgec clean, use the eraser and clean um. There still may be a bios setting? Gotta get out in stable will ck back later!

Go to http://www.crucial.com and try to lookup your system. It will tell you how much memory you can have in the machine. It is likely that a machine that old can only have 384mb.

Humm.... something is wrong there. First, you have to have either a PII or a celeron, not both. Do you have a model number like E-6500 or Essential 550 or something like that? Sounds like the system scanner didn't scan correctly.
