Slopes 4 #1 Posted April 14, 2018 Hi all, Picked up a wheelhorse mower. I need help with the model. Also I have got it running. Very rough but it cuts out after a couple of minutes of running. I have cleaned the carb and fitted new fuel filter. I think the choke cable and throttle is not set up right. Thanks.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 10,512 #2 Posted April 14, 2018 Can see the ID plate in the 2nd photo. It is on the left side below the fuel tank tray and above the lift lever. Should have the model number and serial number on it. Garry
SylvanLakeWH 24,230 #3 Posted April 14, 2018 I would drain the old gas, check the screen on the tank outlet for plugging up, and replace the fuel lines...then new gas, seafoam treatment in the gas and spray carb cleaner...
Digger 66 3,477 #4 Posted April 14, 2018 Welcome Slopes . Check where the throttle shaft goes into the carburetor , they're notorious for "egging" and sucking air , or spray a little carb cleaner there and see if the RPM fluctuates .
953 nut 51,899 #5 Posted April 14, 2018 Can't tell from the photos, but if this has an ignition system with points and a coil it would be good to clean or replace the points and a new spark plug is always good.

Slopes 4 #7 Posted April 15, 2018 Thanks for the help. Please see photos regarding choke linkage
Ed Kennell 35,904 #9 Posted April 15, 2018 (edited) Yes. someone has altered the throttle linkage to totally bypass the governor. I removed the air cleaner assembly to get photos of my Tecumseh HH120 linkage. The throttle cable actually is on the left side of the engine and connects to this lever. The lever is connected to the governor lever by this spring. The governor is connected to the carburetor by a solid wire link. It seems you just need to route the throttle cable to the lever on the other side of the engine as shown in my first picture and add this solid wire link from the governor to the carb throttle. The choke cable should be moved to where the throttle cable is now. Also, I do not see a fuel pump on your pictures. Is it inside where the fuel line passes through cooling shroud? Hope this helps. pfrederi 17,168 #14 Posted April 28, 2018 That is an electric PTO. Needs 12 volts applies to work. Wiring looks a bit hacked can you give a better shot of teh wires where they go into the PTO ???
pfrederi 17,168 #15 Posted April 28, 2018 There should be two wires going into the PTO. One goes to ground the other to the PTO switch on the instrument panel. Figure out which goes to the switch and see if you have 12 volts with switch on. You should hear a loud click in the PTO when you turn the switch on . 953 nut 51,899 #16 Posted April 28, 2018 There is a 20 Amp fuse in line with the electric clutch, check it. Some ignition switches have four positions, Off, On/Accessory, On, and Start. If you have this switch it needs to be in the On/Accessory position.
