HorseFixer 2,013 #1 Posted February 26, 2009 I have a few Mowing Decks that I want to store I was thinking about doing something like this. Storage is allways a concern and I didn't want to store decks on top of the shelf in my stable. I was thinking about useing angle Iron bolted to the wall with angle Iron brackets extending out about 24" How do you guys store yer decks in an efficient manner? This is kinda what I was thinking of, I think I can get 5 decks under the shelf.
linen beige 15 #2 Posted February 26, 2009 Not a bad idea at all Duke. Now about that stick figure.......Is that your left index finger doing sign for "Hold it, I have an idea."? Or are you using another digit to tell us how you really feel?
whchris 5 #3 Posted February 26, 2009 the idea sounds good but i was also wondering about that finger??
HorseFixer 2,013 #4 Posted February 26, 2009 Actually I was in the shop and was pulling the deck on my 1054A and pinched my finger Reel good. I was holding it up in the air to relieve the swelling, next thing ya know it started bleeding! Anyways thats my story and I'm sticking to it!
Suburban 550 28 #5 Posted February 26, 2009 Good idea, Duke. That should take care of all your deck storage. Next time be careful where you put the finger.
CasualObserver 3,411 #6 Posted February 26, 2009 Interesting concept, but how will you support the floating edge? Will this be just angle iron hanging out there? You may get better results if you think about angling them down toward the back a little bit to take some of the weight/tension. I'm picturing the stands that store stock steel or pipe and the lumber yard... kind of two or three columns of forks sticking out, just make each gap a little narrower in height. You could make it wider too, to be able to have full support from the sides, and make shelf frames and put some plywood down for shelves, but I think that would increase the weight quite a bit. The might not matter though if the front of the shelves had support running to the floor.
GlenPettit 1,717 #7 Posted February 26, 2009 I've got a bunch of 3' 4x4 wood; just stacking the decks atop each other with a pair of 4x4's near the ends seems to work fine up to six high (48" is as high as I can safely lift, and the pile seems solid), and is cheap & non permanent. Just be sure to have the most used on top. Also considered a individual pulley system for 'flat' against the wall near ceiling storage. ps, Duke
bowtieguy 334 #8 Posted February 28, 2009 Hey Duke....how do I stack my decks?.....out in the "back 40" there is a big ole oak tree...I lean the decks up against the ole tree....looks like a T-PEE when all is said and done....ole oak tree provides a shade for them in the summer months and in the winter time the decks provide a home for the little cotton tails!!...I use a white "ink paint stick" to mark the deck with the WH tractor that it came from. And on a hot July day, its kinda fun to drive your ole faded RJ out to the shade tree and just "hang out" with the decks...make for good conversation when your buddies come to look at your "stuff"...they all go home and tell their buddies, "hey, that guy is weird"....stacks his decks around a tree!!! PS...naw, I am just ...but you thought I was serious for a moment didn't ya :dunno:
bell 11 #9 Posted February 28, 2009 Duke, thanks for the laugh.... The "stick duke" is AWESOME!!! I have no input on the decks, I was too busy laughing to even think about it.....
Rollerman 290 #10 Posted February 28, 2009 I store mine just a Glen described with 4X4 blocks. Problem is why do I have so many deck when I only need 2 or 3? Hmm....whats scrap going for lately? Duke seems like a sound idea....should work since you over engineer a bit. Just watch the ends that stick out so something/somebody doesn't bang into them.
