ebinmaine 63,297 #1 Posted February 19, 2018 I don't have good access to a breather filter for the engine on this. I'm going to make one out of Scotch-Brite material. Does the thickness matter?
richmondred01 2,208 #2 Posted February 19, 2018 (edited) Scotch bright may be too dense. Last thing you want is for in not to be able to breath. you are talking about your breather for the valves correct? Edited February 19, 2018 by richmondred01
ebinmaine 63,297 #3 Posted February 19, 2018 Yep that's the one... I wondered about the density when I compared the two but my old one is Very disintegrated so I have little to compare really. Other suggestions of around the house stuff would be welcome. Maybe poke some small holes in the scotchbrite?
richmondred01 2,208 #4 Posted February 19, 2018 Nay won’t do that either. Last I checked Kohler still sells them.
classiccat 548 #5 Posted February 19, 2018 a tecumseh breather element might be easier to find on the cheap
ebinmaine 63,297 #6 Posted February 19, 2018 Availability Isn't the problem.... In few days... I didn't know I needed one when I ordered the gasket kit. Problem I have is I kind of live in the middle of nowhere and I don't want to go get one tomorrow.
pfrederi 17,169 #7 Posted February 20, 2018 Leave it out for a few days until you get the "right stuff" unless it really dusty outside (not likely this time of year) the engine will not be harmed.
ebinmaine 63,297 #8 Posted February 20, 2018 (edited) @pfrederi Is it accessible with the carb in place? Edited February 20, 2018 by ebinmaine
richmondred01 2,208 #9 Posted February 20, 2018 I agree. Leave it out. It’s easier with the carb off but it can be done.

ebinmaine 63,297 #13 Posted February 21, 2018 I didn't get around to messing with the tractor today. I was having to much fun with a machete..... My honey and I spent some time clearing a hiking path on the property. Maybe tomorrow I can find a correct breather.
