  I thought the bearing grease covered front wheels on my C-85 were a bear to clean…I was WRONG! 
  The grass stains on the rear wheels was so much harder to get off. Eventually using a toothbrush, Simple Green and Dawn dish soap I prevailed!

I pulled the Commando's fuel pump apart looking for the source of fuel in the oil.

 

It seemed to me that it had been going through fuel rather quickly, and had started running poorly just recently. I moved it after setting the points the other day and fuel/oil just puked out of the valve cover vent slit. Drained the oil (needed changed anyway) and found my missing fuel.

 

Tore the carb out and found no sealing issues with the needle. Took the pump out and apart, found a bad spot in the diaphragm.

 

This month is getting too expensive.

My steering has been a bit iffy for a while...and just recently, I found I was unable to steer left.

 

Today I finally took the time to look at it.

yes this happened quite often to those early steering fan gears!  I have a spare 701 fan gear as i just want to have insurance!

I've repaired a few by vee crinding and welding the cast iron ends back on and then adding a thin steel plate across the top that is drilled and tapped to the center piece with two cap screws and bolted thru the plate, the end pieces, and the frame.

Are these different from a newer stronger style? 

 

Other than originality can other model pillow blocks be used?

@Sparky noting your clean up on c-85  also have one of those , if you want to really enhance  liquid dawn , use it with HOT WATER , my wife regularly leaves me the  worst pyrex  bake dishes , kettle on stove , liquid soap in dish / whatever , add hot water , like a stainless scrub pad , and a metal spatula , the worst bake on , breaks down , and disappears . bring it , pete

It's barely getting into the 90's so I replaced the worn bearings and leaking seals in the two stage in case the snow is right around the corner.  I had some Ace International red that was dark and didn't gloss at all.  I went back to Ace and bought more that had the same part number but a bright red cap, it was real close to Toro red and worked well.

When fixing up my boat, I had about 12 gallons of 6 year old gas.  I designated the 416-8 as the machine to burn the old stuff, and it’s been actually running pretty well with this stuff in it.  Anyway, just about used it all up, looking forward to giving the ole machine some fresh stuff.

Did you dilute it some with fresh? Or add anything to the gas?

Today was paint prep, I primed and smoothed everything i could reach. I also finished up the Air Filter cover. I lucked out with a new Filter instructions sticker that was identical to the old one. It was in the new stickers I got for the M12.

Next up,  I have a half gallon of Rust Oleum IH Red for it to try out in my new paint gun.

What is the setup you paint guys use for a Home Depot Husky gravity feed paint gun, with Rust Oleum IH red implement paint?
