Rototiled the garden with the C-145

Trina's 867 Pigpen and my Tecumsehorse are both in the new workshop space for engine swaps. 

The 867 will be a Kohler 8 HP direct swap. 

My tractor will be a fair amount more complicated. 

The OHV160 will be changed to a Briggs Vanguard 20 HP V twin engine.

The 300-6 is a great engine, but small block V8s are a bit shorter.

 

I think a 300-6 is almost as long as a short-frame WH.

SBF like an old Windsor is definitely several inches shorter in length. 

The inline 300 runs right around 3 feet depending on accessories.  

 

I may need to use a frame stretcherererer.  🤔

I know 5.0 swaps are common in old Rangers. I looked into doing a 300 once and gave up because I would have had about an inch between the water pump and the rad, and that was with no fan.

It’s been a productive afternoon. After work, I started to look into getting the hour meter working that came with my K321 on the C -141. I’m going to need some more parts. So I stripped and painted the light/ignition/ gauge cluster the same black as the shift plate. Then I took it for an extended spin to test it and popped off both outer clips for the front wheels. After fixing that, I decided to scuff it up, I washed it, and ended up painting the wheels gloss white. The front inner wheels, and the left inner rear wheel need paint. That’s a tomorrow morning / later in the week job…

I've seen vehicles at shows with similar clearance issues. Some used thin aftermarket fans, wider but thinner radiator, or push type electric fans.

I almost dropped a 5.0 into my old Bronco II. Had the motor. Too expensive for all the adapters for the 4wd.

Started the investigation into the C175 to see what’s causing the front plug to get fouled with carbon. Intake valve has some buildup. Not as bad as I expected.

  Front tire on the C-85 goes flat, hoped for a valve stem issue but nope, it’s leaking thru the sidewall so it’ll need a tube. 
  No tubes in stock here so I moved to wheel cleaning. Although the front wheels appear clean in the picture the insides were filthy! They cleaned up nice

It can be. Depends on how you do it.

 

The full powertrain from a 5.0 Explorer is a very nice fit for a swap, including the transfer case. The best way to do it, is to buy a whole Explorer.

@Sparky Mike, I have to say it again. That is one of the nicest original C-85’s I’ve ever seen! If I was closer I’d sneak over there and put some tire shine on those tires 🤣🤣
