A related tip I glue a one of those small packs of desiccant (comes in medicine bottles etc,) to the inside cover of the points. I have never had to clean them or de-rust them since and the tractor starts even after the winter pause.

Yep, Missouri has one of the lowest state gas taxes and you can apply for a refund if your vehicle weighs less that 26,000 lbs.

Might have to try that. I keep them around for when we swamp a pair of waders. I stick them down in the boots and then stick them in the boot dryer.

Working on the Sparky tractor this morning. 

Got the transmission filled with fresh 80W140 gear oil. 

New dog point set screw and nut. 

New shifter boot. 

 

 

 

 

Ordered more boots from @76c12091520h.

 

 

 

 

After some serious battling and creation of new words I finally got the rear tires mounted. 

Part of the challenge of that task was getting my air compressor set back up. I haven't had it usable for several months because of the rearrangement of the apartment and new workshop. It's great to have that back to usable but I do need to replace the drain valve which is apparently stuck in the closed position.

 

I also swapped the seat to a smaller one that appears to be squarish like a 1045 seat and has a cover. 

 

 

 

Now moving on to getting the new front tires mounted.

Front tires all on and front axle is greased.

Despite the heat today I mowed. Then I decided to give the 654 a much overdue cleaning along with a mid-season service. Greased everything & sharpened mower blades. No oil consumed so none needed to be added. Looks good from 10ft away. Someone at one time painted it wrong color red & right over all the patina/rust. Its definitely an excellent working tractor.

I went fishing out in Mt Holly this morning and I've never seen that section of Mountain Creek so low.

You said it. Even the clover buds are only a few inches tall. Usually this time of year I'm still mowing just to keep them whacked down.

I have to certain spots, shady areas and the circle area in the driveway. Crab grass just keeps on growing without rain.
