I spent the big bucks at the show and bought a Gen u ine Toro cable. I installed the cable at full length and played with the amount of cable sheathing  on the governor side of the cable clamp until I got full smooth travel. Then I cut the cable sheath a couple of inches longer than the one that was on it. I came up with 3/4" of sheath past the clamp and 1 3/4" of cable sticking out past the end of the sheath with the knob all the way in.

Her friend's dad bought it new in 1976 or 77. 

Why T.H. he ever put it to that color remains a mystery because he didn't own a 🤮🦌. 

 

Oh and @D_Mac Trina wants you to know the trailer is much closer to "Oliver Green". 

And ... Does NOT have - her words - "disgusting yellow wheels".

I think I've got a solution to the severe carburetor icing problem I had last winter.  Here in Noo Joisey we often get temps hovering just below freezing with very high humidity (high dew point) and this is prime condition to ice up the carb.  I had to stop every ten minutes and wait for the ice to melt before the engine would start again.

 

I remember the old days where cars had a piece of flexible aluminum corrugated tubing running from a shroud around the exhaust manifold up to the snorkel on the air cleaner so I went and looked for the tubing.  Dorman sells a couple sizes in their "HELP!" line of products.  An 18" long piece of 2" diameter was right around $5.00 at Advance Auto with a 15% coupon.  Picked it up this morning.

 

I pulled the rubber boot from the shroud to the air cleaner.  Formed the end of the tubing into an oval and put a bit of 200 MPH tape around it to reinforce it a bit.  The 2" diameter is a perfect fit.  Covered the shroud hole with more tape.

 

 

I had to relocate the condenser to the other side of the coil to make room for the tubing:

 

 

Then I formed the end of the tube into a rectangle-ish shape and stuck it down into an opening between the engine and the exhaust heat shield.

This will suck enough warm air into the carb to prevent icing... I hope!

I gave this one a set of teeth.

 

I was getting tired of using a pitchfork, so I made a 4 foot wide pitchfork. That'll move those piles of cow shed hay and straw bedding a lot faster than me and my 2 hands.

 

I made it so I can remove or install it pretty quick and easy. it slides into the bucket, under that strip of angle iron in the back and pop in 3 bolts along the front, and its ready to rock and roll.

 

and you observe right... my welds are good enough and not much better.

When I picked up the 417-A last weekend, the PO told me that he bought it 6 months ago to use it as a mower, but never liked the way it cut so he decided to sell it. I think I found the issue.

 

Grass was really wet from the rain today and it was getting dark out, so I'll mow with it tomorrow on the 418-A now that the deck is cleaned and the blades are sharpened and installed correctly.

 

Engine compression on the KT17QS is excellent.
