Agreed Pete, Ive made a few tie rods up for some of my other tractors but don't believe the Heim joints would look right on the 701. here is a couple/3 pics. The bottom pic is the 701 and they are different design than the later models.

Are you turning the rods yourself. I'd love to get my tractors converted over.

yeah, just repurposed old tie rods. Ive used the older ones that were not threaded on either end and some of the later ones that were already threaded on one end. Turn and thread to a left-hand thread so they are easily adjustable. Really helps when you want to center the steering wheel up also.

@sqrlgtr , initially used threaded rod on my tie rod ends / flat heim joints  , as a durability test , guess what ?  many years in , no  failures or issues , slide a hose over the threaded rod , it disappears . dialed in  same original  tie rod  measurement , been bombproof , pete

:text-yeahthat: I've made several pairs over the years using 3/8"-24 threaded rod with 3/8" ID steel tube over it.

Also made them with heims.

Took mower off 654- cleaned & oiled for winter storage. Did oil change, new drive belt, misc maint, installed weights & plow.

702 is next on list. Should just need some minor maint before winter.

416 is ready for snow, except for a couple cosmetic items, especially a new seat.

I know I'm getting ready early but gotta get stuff done while I have the time.....

Installed some of the goodies I picked up at the Portland Swap Meet.

Changed out the lug tires for this $50 set I picked up.

Popped on the "everyday" set of hubcaps (keeping an NOS set stored for shows or potential restoration).

Installed a different ammeter - the original was bouncing around like crazy. Hard to find a 15-amp ammeter.

Installed the snowplow bracket that came with an HY-3 kit.

Soaked up some beautiful weather putting around the yard and tending to a pile of limbs I was burning.

Next on the list is to replace all the seals on the transmission. After that, popping the head off, checking the valves, breather, and repairing or replacing a leaking fuel pump.

Just replaced the stator on my 520-HC Vanguard swap because it wasn't charging. One of the stator wires had insulation missing by the flywheel. After replacing, voltage was still not much more than 12 VDC. I replaced the regulator and then it jumped up to 14.03 VDC. :D I also adjusted the valves. They were between 0.011 and 0.014. Specs are .005. Now it runs great and the tach moves but I don't think it's accurate because of the Vanguard having only 8 poles on the stator.

Attempted to mount these brand new 4 ply tires. Actually felt something in my shoulder while I was leaning into my Harbor Freight tire mounting rig. Stopped before I did damage to some muscle that doesn’t see much action in my day to day activities ! Was just too much and ya gotta know when to let the pro’s handle it. Local garage popped em on for me.

Gotta love all the nubbies…but they won’t last.

Same spec on both intake and exhaust?

From my research, both intake and exhaust is between 0.004 and 0.006. I set mine at 0.005 and it runs great.

I have both the small and large HF tire rigs.  I picked up the large one a while back in a bulk deal and hadn't mounted it yet, so this weekend I drilled holes in the garage floor, put anchors in, and set it up. Then I realized that the 8" fronts I wanted to work on wouldn't fit on that rig.  I was going to abandon the small one because the vertical threaded bar got all bent the last time I used it (where do they actually manage to get metal that soft? :eusa-think: )

Anyway, I was actually able to get one tire dismounted on the floor, using downpressure on the large rig's arm.  These are so bad that the tubes are stuck to the inside of the rusty rims...  :scared-eek:  I have the second one half off, using the small rig. using a lot of soapy water.

Rears, no thanks.  Belle Tire will mount those for $10 each - that's a better option for me. I don't think they'd want to deal with the rusty fronts I'm working on right now though.

Hope the shoulder didn't take any lasting damage.  I had cortisone injections in both of mine last year and have been going easy on them since then.
