Replaced seal behind brake drum(I just noticed when I posted pics I put brake drum on backwards ), and changed oil in rear of the 312-8 I been working. Also  got to try out my new headlight, and before anyone ask, no thats not a professional model in last pic just me.

Show prep . Had a little axle drip going on, and decided it’s time to make it like new again . That oem seal from 40 years ago sure gave me a run for my money .

Mowed all my parent’s lawn with the 312. It powered through with only one stop to tighten the mule drive. The PTO went bad on their mower so it had been a week since it was mowed. The grass is growing like crazy with our odd weather for the time of year lately.

 

 

I also recruited the 308 for them to use if they need to. Just a little grease in the mule drive and a once over to check it over as my test after I put the deck on had a new noise up front. After it’ll be good to go.

They can be a pain, but well worth it when replaced.

i always thought my 37 SD on my 312-8 was terrific cut - - maybe the 2 blade design, or the lift attachment on the one blade -- but it sure leaves nice cut - and the 12 Kohler always enough power

That's a PO fix and is actually 3 springs, works but will eventually get replaced.

@Brockport Bill what is the story on that 'lift attachment' on your 37 SD?

That and several other things combined. The two blade design means the blades are longer which gives a higher tip speed for a given input RPM. The design of the deck also provides much higher lift per revolution and distributes clippings better as well. 

 

The only downside to the 37SD is that it's only 37 inches wide. Otherwise it's probably the best cutting deck Wheel Horse ever produced. The 60SD cuts very nice as well. Both are actually Toro "influenced".  

 

Of course the kind of grass and how often it is cut and how well a given deck is maintained are additional factors. 

 

But overall the 37SD is optimized. The size is sacrificed to give the best cut for it's given application. If you know you know.

That blade lift piece is OEM ....i have bagger system which on my 312-8 with 37 deck apparently was engineered by wh to provide the thrust/turbulence etc to send grass leaves etc freely up tube without needing the assist units required on the 42 and 48 bagger systems

here are some photos of the 312-8 with bagger system as well as the underneath of a 37 deck with the 2 blades and the lift attachments on the outside blade to propel the clippings and leaves up the chute
