On the tube that just sits in the grommet I use a little silicone to seal that area up better. Next time you do an oil change add a 3/8 nipple and elbow to have less messy oil changes. Recently parted out one of these machines if you need something let me know.

ML3 2,268 #25881 Posted Sunday at 04:44 PM Got the RJ out of back shed dodging all the mud in yard. Started up & running good. Now if I only can get the recoil fixed for starter. I have 2 1/2 starters but collectively cannot seem to make 1 work! I can rope start it but I want the recoil installed 2

There are at least three recoils that I know of that is correct for a Clinton 1200/1290. Fairbanks Morse being the most common. Should be easy peasy but they all take different cups. I have manuals on all of them if you need. Engine Clinton Recoil starter ID.pdf That is a nice looking RJ ... Edited Sunday at 05:03 PM by WHX??

I agree, its simple but for some reason I must be simpler.... Appears like the tabs arent moving out to cup. Thanks for the information. Ill look at it & hope to figure it out.

Syrmore 1 #25887 Posted yesterday at 03:20 AM Spending over 6 hours on this damn governor I have yet to understand. I follow the manual and it still can’t get it right. This old 857 may never run. 1

Better yet trade ya even up for the deflector style if you have one. Will PM you some pics. 8 hours ago, Syrmore said: follow the manual and it still can’t get it right. Should be easy to set up so my guess is something else is not right. I see no arm to carb link so that may be your problem. Start a thread on it and we can help you out. 2
sqrlgtr 2,704 #25889 Posted 10 hours ago Got the lights working on the 520H today. Took original switch out and took it apart, cleaned everything up and a little dielectric grease and put back together, and shazam , I have lights. Thanks to @cleat for mentioning taking switch apart because if he hadnt I probably would have chucked in the trash. Lost my pics of switch being apart somehow but it involves a spring a ball and a little sliding contact but really wasnt hard to refurb so dont be throwing them switch’s out unless you throw them my way. 7

sqrlgtr 2,704 #25891 Posted 10 hours ago Put gas in 857 then pulled brush out of the yard to the woods. Fist time this tractor has been cranked in 2 months fired right up, not so before I rebuilt the fuel pump. 4

I will suggest putting switch in a Ziplock bag or box before popping switch apart because the ball, spring and sliding contact are pretty tiny and they all went different directions on me but I got lucky and found them . I wish I had pics but had phone screen backwards and was taking pics of myself instead,
