Handy Don 16,215 #25726 Posted Thursday at 07:32 PM Just now, squonk said: All you need is the Handy Don's secret weapon! You are so right! Problem was that I’d brought only fixed-size wrenches out to the garage thinking “this’ll be a short job” so I needed an extra hike back down to the basement shop to get “the weapon.” Lesson learned. 1

adsm08 4,351 #25729 Posted Thursday at 11:20 PM I found a 7/8 ball that fits the hitch on the Commando. Now I just need to fix the carb and I can use the tractor to move stuff.

ML3 2,228 #25732 Posted yesterday at 01:20 AM Worked the 654 hard today. We've had tons of rain so far this spring. Have an 81yr old neighbor lady. Her landscape guy hasn't shown up to cut her lawn. I told her I'd mow before the city cites her. We had rain this morning so it was very wet & muddy. Her grass was at least 6-8" tall. 5 6

Wet sanding clears the dust out of fine grit paper to prevent clogging
pfrederi 20,202 #25735 Posted 21 hours ago (edited) Got the 48 all hooked up had to buy a new belt. 42 takes 102" 48 takes 103" Hard to believe it makes a difference...it does. To wet to start mowing the paths. I like the front mount as it knocks some of the Tics down before they hit my leg Already had one.. Going to need lots of DEET this year. Did a short test may have to get a bigger horse the 48 put a load on the 14hp. Edited 21 hours ago by pfrederi 8

Chris689 176 #25738 Posted 17 hours ago Rather productive day today. Broke the axle shaft free of the hub with my 12 ton hobo freight press. Pulled the trans out of the 10-8, new axle shaft came in today for the 10-8 trans now just need to get the time to split it and repair it. Had my new tri-rib tires mounted yesterday and today threw them on the C120 for now to see how I like them since they’re for the 10-8. Then plowed out my new garden bed with the C120. All in all it was a good day. 4

You have to dissemble the PTO... the back side belt goes outside the hoop. Will take some tomorrow 2
kpinnc 17,729 #25740 Posted 13 hours ago My favorite Frankentractor started acting up this week. Slow to crank sometimes, and shut off unexpectedly every 15-20 mins. Crank right back up and die 5 mins later. Swapped both magnetos, since both originals "tested" within specs. Best I can tell one of them flaked out when hot. Once again purrs like a kitten (a dang big one ) now. I really love this machine. It was my first Wheel Horse and it has been awesome for 30 years! 10

We're not forecast to go above the upper 50s for the next 11 days!

peter lena 9,830 #25747 Posted 2 hours ago @Chris689 make a regular habit of penetrating oil spray down , of any , dry / faded / neglected paint ? soak it down and forget it , let the penetrants do their thing , usually a darker shade developes , showing you what's there , then what i do is to use a mineral oil clean cloth rub down , no rough action , just a total , refresh of darkened paint , if the paint does not easily , break thru with a color change , fine , leave it in the vintage stage , seams like everyone wants to instantly recover a show queen , everything I have is , recovered / maintained , original paint , looks the way it should be for the years of service . very east to experiment with this idea , thats how I started , stay oily , pete
Chris689 176 #25748 Posted 2 hours ago (edited) @peter lena it’s funny you mention this. I’ve been having this internal conflict the last couple weeks on whether or not to do a quick scuff and shoot of the 10-8 but I’ve come to realize I really like how the paint has faded on it and all the original stickers are still on it except for one. It has aged very nicely in my opinion. The C120 on the other hand I haven’t decided on yet. It got hammered with road salt this winter because hauling it on an open trailer to help family out for the first half of winter, then I got an enclosed trailer. So I’m on the fence doing a scuff and shoot on this one. I think the 10-8 will be a good candidate for keeping oiled. If I made either of them into show pieces I’d never use them.
