Today was a SUCCESS !!! The initial coat of paint looks good. I swapped to a gravity feed gun and that was the solution.

I’m going to put another coat of paint on after I do some touch up in spots. but it’s getting there.

I sprayed another coat later after I posted. It’s looking good.

I did very little to the WHs today. The new fuel pump diaphragms from @buckrancherarrived in the mail today. Bruce (my son) rebuilt the fuel pump. I supervised the rebuild and the reassembly of the engine. Then we filled the fuel and waited to see if any ran out of the oil drain, we had nothing after a little while, so we filled it up and fired it. After running for a minute the idle settled and it ran better than it has since I owned it.

Mowing w/654 & had to do a temporary repair on front axle pin. Plate broke off the end of it. Big bolt & 2 nuts to keep it locked in place. 🤞 Axle almost pulled out. This will do till I order the correct part......20250823_113526.jpg.a133b410596a0580e09ed1d5d142e93c.jpg

Got new carb gasket and fuel pump diaphragm in the 855 today, then cleaned up/reorganized the garage, again so I can get the tractors in a more accessible position.

C-85 cleaning is essentially done…back on all fours wheels.

This one might actually get waxed!

Mowed the lawn with Morgan, the 14-8 with the 42" SD deck.  Even though that combination is 52 years old, it still leaves an excellent cut on the lawn.

One wonders if one of the modern box store mowers would even last that long, let alone still be performing well.  One could probably ask the same a question about some of the current zero turns, as well.

My parents have an early 2000's Cub Cadet. I'd guess its 20 to 25 years old. It doesn't seem to do a better job than my tractors.  The deck sounds like its going to come off while your mowing.  Everything on it is a mix of plastic and fairly thin sheet metal even the deck attachment points. The newest tractor I have is 10 years older and has none of the wear related issues of the Cub Cadet, and does just as good mowing wise. I'm a bit biased now but I'll probably run my tractors until they die, or I do.

Sometimes I come up with some good ones.:D Hopefully, I've got another 55 years so there is a chance I may out last them.

The Cub Cadet is likely made by MTD and is just another disposable mower in yellow  Older Cubs were good and then they degraded to a point where only the largest could be called a tractor.

Older stuff is better I saw a Facebook reel that I thought fit this conversation.

Not to mention that the ignition switch is likely a "control module". My neighbor has one in that age range that he got for free when his uncle died. I had a to do a good bit of work to get it running, and then the controller died (I think he hooked the battery up backwards) and it's sat for two years because while still available that piece is a hefty percentage of what that tractor cost new.

Good to know, after helping them with theirs, I like mine that much more.

Got a little something. Going to put the deck on now, fully clean it up later in the season.
