Ed Kennell 42,338 #24351 Posted August 19 Added 100 lbs to the front of the 310-8 to balance out the Trac Vac. That bagger is heavy when filled with 200 lbs of wet grass. Also added a ratchet strap to prevent the box from tipping over. I find it easier and faster to windrow the grass with the 312H 48" SD and then collect it with the Trac Vac. 5
MainelyWheelhorse 1,700 #24352 Posted August 19 (edited) Today was a SUCCESS !!! The initial coat of paint looks good. I swapped to a gravity feed gun and that was the solution. I’m going to put another coat of paint on after I do some touch up in spots. but it’s getting there. I sprayed another coat later after I posted. It’s looking good. MainelyWheelhorse 1,700 #24353 Posted August 20 Today I put the C-141 back together. It still needs some tweaking but it’s almost done. 5
JoeM 8,462 #24354 Posted August 21 Started to collect and clean up some parts for a resurrection of an old 520. It's going to be a 312H w/magnum Drilled out the spot welds on the cross piece for the tower frame to make clean up and paint easier. I not going for a frame off but as always, I'm headed somewhat in that direction. 8
Sparky-(Admin) 23,391 #24355 Posted August 22 Laid down some stripes with the 315-8. For the first time ever it started hard and ran rough, might have to yank the carb off it and go through it. It eventually straightened out, but after sitting for a bit I went to put it away and again it was running lousy. This is also my only rig with a drink holder, what a nice feature 10
adsm08 3,393 #24356 Posted August 22 I did very little to the WHs today. The new fuel pump diaphragms from @buckrancherarrived in the mail today. Bruce (my son) rebuilt the fuel pump. I supervised the rebuild and the reassembly of the engine. Then we filled the fuel and waited to see if any ran out of the oil drain, we had nothing after a little while, so we filled it up and fired it. After running for a minute the idle settled and it ran better than it has since I owned it. 2
Pullstart 67,166 #24357 Posted August 23 Boys and their toys… The rental on this Bobcat was covered by doing the tailgate latch work on his dump truck last week. A major backyard overhaul is in the works and big and small equipment will be employed here. That Ohio Steel dump trailer works awesome! 8
ML3 1,767 #24358 Posted August 23 Mowing w/654 & had to do a temporary repair on front axle pin. Plate broke off the end of it. Big bolt & 2 nuts to keep it locked in place. 🤞 Axle almost pulled out. This will do till I order the correct part...... 7
adsm08 3,393 #24359 Posted August 23 Got new carb gasket and fuel pump diaphragm in the 855 today, then cleaned up/reorganized the garage, again so I can get the tractors in a more accessible position. 3

8ntruck 7,937 #24367 Posted August 25 (edited) Mowed the lawn with Morgan, the 14-8 with the 42" SD deck. Even though that combination is 52 years old, it still leaves an excellent cut on the lawn. One wonders if one of the modern box store mowers would even last that long, let alone still be performing well. One could probably ask the same a question about some of the current zero turns, as well. Edited August 25 by 8ntruck

It doesn't seem to do a better job than my tractors. The deck sounds like its going to come off while your mowing. Everything on it is a mix of plastic and fairly thin sheet metal even the deck attachment points. The newest tractor I have is 10 years older and has none of the wear related issues of the Cub Cadet, and does just as good mowing wise. I'm a bit biased now but I'll probably run my tractors until they die, or I do. Edited August 26 by MainelyWheelhorse 1

The Cub Cadet is likely made by MTD and is just another disposable mower in yellow Older Cubs were good and then they degraded to a point where only the largest could be called a tractor.

Not to mention that the ignition switch is likely a "control module". My neighbor has one in that age range that he got for free when his uncle died. I had a to do a good bit of work to get it running, and then the controller died (I think he hooked the battery up backwards) and it's sat for two years because while still available that piece is a hefty percentage of what that tractor cost new.

Good to know, after helping them with theirs, I like mine that much more.
