What have you done to your Wheel Horse today?

Guess I should have expected this too!

In the end it is a solid machine, just needs some TLC.

Wasn’t the 417 the one that came with all the extra debris in all the tight spaces from the factory? Otherwise pretty good looking.

Guess you can be happy there were no stinging or biting creatures hiding in amongst the debris. :)

@Andy N.

I’ve seen much worse clean up just perfectly. Just break out the shop-vac and pressure washer and she’ll be fine.

That’s exactly how the day went. Cleanup went well and the machine is very solid.

Pretty much worked the old 310 all day. Hauling wood, and mulching leaves. Soon I can take the deck off and rebuild it. One of the spindles has a decent size chunk missing, and the deck has two little penny sized rust holes. I can probably just get away with painting over the rust to keep it from growing. B769E7D8-F623-4EC6-BE2A-E1BABD501DEB.jpeg.9bd4bb98e852f4871d99faf535244352.jpeg

I have noticed a lot of WH deck spindle housings with chunks missing...more often than I've seen with other brands...is it just me, or what ?

Yeah, it seems like they’re pretty soft. Even compared to today’s MTD junk

Had the same build up on  my 418-C when I got it. that stuff was so thick it wouldn't allow the motion controller to move all the way forward. Mine had acorns and mouse nesting material as well as clippings in it, gald you only had grass.

I've switched to using my backpack leaf blower make to short work of removing that nasty old debris build up.

I use a shop vac so I don't spread it around...

The BBT, her Mom and me and the dog spent some time in the forest today.

We've been wanting to get a path made that creates a loop from one side of  the acreage to the other.

Today was the day.

This'll give us better access for recreation like mountain biking or walking, snowshoeing etc. Also for pulling firewood.

We both wanted to get it done in time for the upcoming Meet n Greet here in November.

@Raposo @OldWorkHorse @Stepney @Bens vintage tractors and whoever else shows,  you'll have some more room for exploring out there.

Here's some pics that show various before and after shots of certain areas along with general scenery.

Pretty tough to really see what was done without actually standing there because we only cut what we need to, to get through.

Aaannnddd.... Then she wanted to go back out and clear some more....

So here's some more pictures of paths and also bonus mushrooms.

We use certain areas or objects in the woods to describe where we're headed or what areas need attention/pruning etc.

The first pic is what we call Split Rock.

We are not skilled in foraging for wild food here.

The Google box with an image search does indicate one of them is edible.

I. Isn't. Tryin it.    😀

I do quite enjoy chewing on a small end of a yellow birch twig. Tastes like mint.

Well, what I have learned from criminal justice is that... some things that are marked (inedible) are such because they cause effects, such as other drugs do...

Others just cause... secondary... eh... stomach issues...

Others... will kill you...

I've always questioned with these types of things... who was the first fool who decided to try these things and find out...?

I've wondered that myself on occasion.

Like who's the one who thought... Yeah let's drain a tree and boil the fluid for hours to see if we can make syrup.....

My dear old friend Mac foraged for edible 'shrooms all the time.  On two occasions he had to be rushed to hospital.   One he missed a band gig.  I miss my old bud, RIP Mac.  (wasn't the'shrooms that caused his demise)

My grandmother (passed at 90+) used to gather mushrooms near our home when we lived in Dallas, PA. But she said it took years by her father's side to learn the good ones--she simply ignored anything she didn't know for sure was good. We saw her only once or twice a year so she never tried to teach us. My Dad was always skeptical, but we never got sick from anything she picked.
