Hydro Axle Seals

Recommended Posts

MaineDad

So I learned something new today. One of the axle seals on the C-160 was leaking a bit. I am very picky and hate leaks. I had a couple of 8 speed axle seals so I decided to pick out the old seal, what was left of it, and put the 8 speed seals in. That was a mistake! What a leak I had now.

I called the local Wheel Horse / Toro dealer and he informed me that the seals are completely different. He had one in stock and it is now installed. I plowed the 3 inches of snow we received over night and not one leak! I like it when things work out!

Glad to hear this story had a happy ending Micah.

Any idea how many hours you have wrenching on that C-160 tranny  .?

Mike,

Seeing how I bought it as a non-running tranny, I have done a lot to it. All new gaskets, tow valve, axle seal, piston pump and ring, rebuilt pump motor, and a ton of time learning. It now runs real smooth and was worth the experience.

It was fun plowing snow with it tonight. Very fast compared to the 8 speed.

Was that the first one you rebuilt, Micah? How difficult was it?

It was difficult at first until I found the parts diagram

After, that it was a lot easier. Learning something new always takes time, but I think I have a good handle on this tranny now.
