jerrell 1 #1 Posted February 14, 2009 :dunno: i was just browsing or surfing as they call it, and ran upon the Government LIquidation.com site, seems they do all the selling for the DOD now and in all of the states, i was interested in one of those small trailers they have and i found some very good ones at the Little Rock AFB about 15 miles away. Also saw some good items at a base in Columbus Ohio. i have a equipment trailer for the big tractors but i don't want to pull a big trailer on a long trip for one or two horses,(planning another horse raid) and i wanted something that would take highway speeds without worrying about a blow out on those small tires, the site works similar to Ebay and has some restrictions.. This site is not like some sites that sell military items , they have to buy from this site, and sometime gets a heck of a bargan.. If anyone lives close to a military base, they can visit the DMRO office and get a list of items, or go to the above website.. also coming up the 17th of this month they have a big auction in many states of trucks and trailers of all types, i always wanted to drive one of those ten wheel drive monsters and just make my own road.
Rollerman 290 #2 Posted February 14, 2009 Jerrel check again on the link? I don't see one in your thread?...."Karl we need a blind smilie?" If by the 10 wheelers you mean the 6x6 deuce & a half or 5 ton trucks. Yes that would be sweet to have one
Rideawaysenior 25 #3 Posted February 14, 2009 Wondered about that my self. I'd like to see what I can get for a flat deck trailer without spending a ton of cash. I'd bet that there would be a good place to work.
jerrell 1 #4 Posted February 14, 2009  Sorry, it is www.governmentliquidations.com, yeah, one of those big monsters, 10 wheel drive or 3 drive axels , some even have a snorkel, ( i might need this if it dosn't quit raining on the flat deck trailer, they have them with 16 inch sideboards that fold down. or up to haul dirt or gravel or something like that. Nick 13 #5 Posted February 14, 2009 Another site to look into is Govdeals.com Its not in every state but you can search by state and local county/municipality/university. You can also search by description but if you have the time and look through it all there is some interesting stuff that comes up for sale. Everything from computers, cars, trucks, trailers up to 100,000 gallon storage tanks. Happened to think.. I left Wheel Horse off that list of things that comes up for sale. Ive yet to buy anything but have seen some WH and other brand garden tractors selling.
HorseFixer 2,013 #6 Posted February 14, 2009 I have allways wondered myself how those Gov surplus dealies wen't I nevere have really herd of anyone who ever got a a real good deal. Has anyone?
jerrell 1 #7 Posted February 14, 2009  i have, that's the reason i was surfing and looking for the DMRO site, i got a 9.9 mecury outboard, when i was in the AF, bought it for 75.00, and it was really taken care of. My dad bought a Mystery Box, a sealed box at Barksdale AFB for 25.00 and contained a big screen color TV, worked great. BUT beware they do have some junk, the site i posted about ,,have a viewing times for you to go and inspect the items that are coming up for auction, as a side note , and this may offend some, but at fort polk LA, they are selling a number of morbidity containers, similar to storage containers, has AC and electric already installed, work tables, drawers, sorta morbid to talk about, but would make a dandy small shop. the cargo trailers i mentioned in the first post are real strongly made, sorta indestructable but some are very heavy and you need to view them and decide what you need, there are several that are made out of light weight aluminum but very strong... one drawback about this site is all items start at 150.00 even the monster trucks. it seems the gov came in and changed the start bid the first of the year,,, also have pintle (ms) hooks,or hitches,,, so if you buy one have to have the adapter to fit your truck..or have a new trailer hitch welded to the tongue. jerrell 1 #9 Posted February 20, 2009  i won the auction on a military cargo trailer, 250.00, it listed the price the mil paid for this thing as over 8000.00 i couldn't believe it...any way the trailer is 166 in long 83 wide and 98 tall, it has ribs and a canvas that covers the cargo area, completely inclosed.. also has hydraulic and air brakes, absolutely no rust or bent up... has built in lights so can't break the lenses . and 12 ply mud tires,( wish i could put them on the new horse i'm rebuilding) .it seems the only drawback so far is the pintel hitch.. will have to weld a regular ball hitch on..and of course paint ,, but the camo thing is thing to have now days. have to go thru a security check to make sure i;m not a terrorist,, said it may take up to 45 days. will post a pic soon.. Rollerman 290 #10 Posted February 20, 2009 Good deal Jerrel! Looking forward to seeing pics. I brought this subject up with a coworker "your thread toppic" ....he informed me another guy at work who won a 6X6 split boom wrecker in a gov auction for a crazy low price....gonna head over to his place & check it out when it warms up. Before you give up on the pintle hitch...how about a combination pinte/ball hitch for your truck?
