Hydro pump rebuild can be expensive. That would be my guess.

I figured the tiller would be worth $300+ though?

The tiller only fits GT 14

I'd be quite interested but I'd gather more info on the hydro repair.  Lots of info on this site too!

The power unit on the gt-14 is sundstrand 90-2062.  I have rebuilt several of these and MAY be able to service this one, depending on its condition.

for further etails, send me an off-site email....  my email address is:

You can use a hydro unit from an Electro or Charger with a few simple steps to change out the drive gear. Too far away for me or I would jump on it.

It's for sale on the "Garden Tractor Junkies" Facebook page. Located in noblesville Indiana. Thanks for your input Dave! And the pulley I got off of you worked perfect! I'm gonna have to think on this one and see. Gotta make some room in the stable if I wanna bring anything else home!

A hydro rebuild sometimes only means the springs in the acceleration valve. That's not bad at all.

$500 seems like a great price. If that photo is accurate, I don't see how you could lose money, even if you find it's a dog, you could part out everything and probably make money.

I just feel like there's something fishy! It's been for sale since may at that price

It looks like you are only a half hour away. Just go look at it.  Start it and run it and then ask the GT experts here about it

It better start and run for the asking price.  I would not hold my breath, because it has been around for a while

If it does not because it "needs battery", then yeah, may be fishy.     Sellers often say they have a great tractor, but YOU can fix it easily when it does not run. That is when they are hiding something

That is why I bring a battery and jumper cables every time i look at one. Take a ignition key as well

Maybe all that is wrong with it is the screw is in the "tow' position, Maybe the drive key is not in the transmission pulley It is possible the seller inherited it and knows nothing about the tractor and if so, you just stole it

Good luck.

Well, yeah, it's old, and it isn't Attach-o-Matic, so it's hard to find implements, or parts. For instance, the springs I needed to fix my hydro, I had to buy from a guy that had a special run made.

But, there is only so much that can be broken on it, and every part of it is sellable on here or ebay for fair prices. For instance, the three point hitch is a very popular item that people seem to like for it. Probably worth at least $200 complete. That seat looks pretty good. If no tears, that is worth something. I do notice the particularly bad paint job on the wheels. So you may get out there and see it's a crude paint job, over existing rust. Best thing to do is just see if it runs, find out what the issue with the transmission is. If it runs, but has trouble going in one direction, like forward, but goes backwards fine and the rest of the hydraulics work, that is an easy transmission fix, just the acceleration valve spring.

I've tried contacting the seller two different methods with no reply. Guess it was too good to be true

Your story doesn't quite add up to me.

To begin with, Wheel Horse Junkies is not a sales or "what's it worth" page. So mentioning that doesn't hold much water for me.

Anything that gets posted there for sale gets taken down pretty quickly.

You don't cite a link or a post.........and I can't find it.......even on the sister site which allows sale postings, Wheel Horse Garden Tractors and Parts.

I've owned a first year (1969) 1-7741 GT 14 since about 1980.

I follow this stuff pretty closely and there are GT 14s for sale here in northern Indiana, but the one you mention is an unknown to me.

I need more relevant info in the form of an actual listing to give you my 2 cents.

Regards,

Steve

You can switch the GT14 to newer attach-a-matic pretty easily. Front and mid mount brackets.

I finally broke something serious on my GT14 the Lift arm that is attach (by chain) to the plow snapped off at the receiver arm top which is attached to the Hydro cylinder on the bottom. It appears the broken arm was welded there (see pics) my big question is how do get the "H" arm which is mounted on each side of the tractor by the steel plates the go up from the tractor frame out. I took off the four mounting bolts for it but it is tightly fit in aforementioned side plates I can move it up and down but cannot get it out. Is it relatively easy to remove one of the side plates and if yes which side is the easiest the pedal side left side (from the back) or the right side (from the back). Has anyone from the square experienced this problem, does anyone have this lift assembly. Any and all comments welcomed. p.s. I have used this beast for 10 years with zero major issues guess the stress of the lifting finally got to the arm which obviously is under tremendous pressure......Rob

Hi Guys, got a K321 14HP Kohler in house with all the electrical components removed. I cleaned and aligned the points, added a 12v (resistor coil) positive 12V battery feed to positive terminal, ran a line from the negative side of the coil to the points. I know I have to add a condenser also to the negative side. My question is does location of the condenser matter i.e. next to the coil or is closer to the points better. Thanks Rob

I was looking around on ebay and noticed that hydraulic actuators from John Deere 312, 317, etc models appear to be Identical to a Gt14 or d series lift cylinder. My question is would a new cylinder from ebay be able to replace one that is on a gt14 or d series?

Images below of cylinders to show similaritys.

I have a question about the 69’ model. I took my tank out to work on carb easier. A couple weeks later as I put it back together & after cleaning everything; I replaced the white weatherstripping that was at bottom of tank and on the corners of the strap. Seems to be all that holds it in place. Because the strap around the tank will not go around the metal bracket on bottom and fit the tank. And even if it did the strap would only line up with the bracket mounting bolts which would be in the way. What did I miss? Didn’t pay close enough attention when I took it apart and can’t see in the parts diagram where the strap does go around the bracket. The weather stripping is tacky enough that the tank stays in place and it is a made to fit perfectly in position. Just seems that the metal strap is pointless.

I have a old gt14 and the plastic plates or control panels are way past their prime, and I saw someone was remarking them with a 3d printer a little while back and I was looking to se if I could find the file but no luck. If anybody has info that would be amazing. Thanks for your time and anything helps.
